-We hear you started out skateboarding, how is wakeskating different?

Ya, I started skating back when I was young but never really got into it until grade 7. I was never good at it trick wise but I love it. Well obviously the ride and everything is different, because you are on water and getting towed by a boat, plus your going 20 mph but once you get into learning stuff like 360 shuvits, big spins and flip tricks having a skateboarding background really helps some riders.

- What would you say to the average skater who wants to try this sport out?

I would tell them to call me up and come riding with me down in Deep Cove this summer and I can teach them to wakeskate behind the Cove Watersports wake boat.

-What did you start out with first, skating or wake skating?

I started skateboarding first, then I got introduced into the wake scene and it went from there.

- How long have you been wake skating?

I have been wakeskating seriously for the past two summers.

- How popular is wake skating compared to wakeboarding?

Wakeskating is really starting to get bigger and bigger every year, I see more and more people taking off there straps (a wakeskate term for wakeboard boots) and putting on skate shoes and going wakeskating.

-Do you travel alot to make it to competitions?

Ya, I travel all over the country doing events in the summer. This is my first year kind of getting more involved down in US events. My plan is to be going full time on the US Pro Tour summer 2007.

-what kinda tricks are you working on/can you do?

I have a very skateboard style of riding, I focus more on shuvit/skateboarding type tricks than doing wake two wake tricks that come from a wakeboard influenced side of the sport. I am really trying to work on consistency for events and trying to get some harder flip tricks down.

-What’s the biggest trick going down right now in wakeskating?

My buddy Nick Taylor a 16 year old from Florida is throwing down 360 flips which is just nuts, and stuff like front side and even backside big spins wake two wake are starting to get to be a set trick for most pros.

-How did you do last season in your events?

I took first overall in the local tour for Pro Wakeskate which I was pretty stoked on, and my worst result the whole summer was 2nd which I was pretty proud of.

-What kind of shoes do you rock? Are there wakeskate specific shoes?

I’ve started to use these new Nike 6.0 Air Morgan’s which are just sick to wakeskate in. A lot of companies are making wakeskate shoes, like Reef, DVS and even Adio are getting into the industry.

-What differences are there between a skateboards shape and a wakeskate?

Well, wakeskates are obviously a lot longer and wider. My Liquid Force wakeskate is a compress molded shape which means it is a fibreglass skate with a plastic type material as an outer core.

-I hear you coach at a wakeschool in Vancouver?

That’s right, I coach at wakeskate/boarding school out Deep Cove, Vancouver. We run two Super Air Nautique Wakeboard boats all summer long. If anyone wants to learn how to wakeskate or wakeboard hit up www.covewatersports.com

-Any thanks?

I would like to thank Kristy Heer, Jude Mural, Aaron Grace and everyone on Liquid Force. Marc Fuller and Harvey Soicher at O’Neill Wetsuits and Apparel, Spencer Welsh at Wakeside.com, Aaron Grace at Spy Optic, Joel Perkins and the rest of the Cove Watersports Team, Silas Thurman at Nike 6.0, everyone who has taken me for a pull on the lake over the past years, my parents for all the financial support and god.
