The pop shove it underflip is when you do a pop shove it, then flip the board up with your back foot by hooking your foot under the edge and pulling up, all in mid air. It's not a normal flip trick, so they are great for a game of skate. If you do them low they can look sort of like varial kickflips, but do them high and they can look very respectable.
What You Need to Know
Good pop shove its are the only requirement, ones that you can catch reasonably high. Varial kickflips might also help you get the feel for how to catch them.
Other Skills:
If you can impossible or bigspin these can also help. There is more back foot motions than normal so the more agile your back foot is, the better.
What You May Find Useful:
Do one standing to the side. Keep your front foot on the ground, and try to flip the trick all with your back foot.
Doing The Trick
Positioning:
The success of this trick is all in your stance. Place your back foot on
the tail with your toes hanging over the edge. The ball of your foot should
still be firm on the board, but the entire toe section of your shoe should
be off. The position of your front foot doesn't matter, it's not really used
in this trick.
Motion:
Set up your feet like mentioned. Also have most of your weight over your front foot.
Jumping high from your front foot, pop the pop-shovit, with your back
foot still in the toe-hanging position. The pop-shovit should be very
vertical. This will make it easier to get your back toes under the board. Be careful not flick like a kickflip at the same time!
As the board raises and spins, keep contact with the board with the side
of your big toe. Rather than slapping the tail and lifting your foot away, lift your back
foot straight up, letting your toes hook under the board in the air, so your toes will flip it on the way up. Be gentle, don't kick it, flick it.
Once the board is just completing its spin, your toes should still be
touching the board, although now they are just underneath it. Continue to
pull your back foot upward now to start the "underflip". Don't kick forward
or out, just continue pulling your foot up. It should feel like your pulling your back foot up through the board.
If done correctly the board will now flip, so fast that people will
struggle to see what trick you've just pulled off. Catching the board is
quite easy, both feet are above the board and ready to land and the board will
(hopefully) seem to suck up to your feet.
Land solid, ride away clean, and think about how good this trick feels.
Video Trick Tips:
Troubleshooting
Problem: When I pop, I can't get my toes under the board! Answer: First of all, make sure you are doing the right foot position. A lot of people pop and scoop their pop shove its a lot. Your back foot is probably scooping behind you, then rushing to get back under the board. Try doing a pop shove it without scooping heaps, be a bit less snappy when you pop.
Problem: I can get the underflip but the board lands in front of me! Answer: This is the most common problem. When you start the trick, lean over your toes just a bit more, like when you're going to do a heelflip. Try to keep the board under you AT ALL TIMES, instead of jumping forward to catch up with it. If you jump forwards you'll probably make it fly even further! If this doesn't help, try poking less of your toes over the edge of the board when you set up for the trick.
Problem: The board flips alright but spins too much! Answer: This sometimes happens because you give the board a small boost when you underflip it, so it spins further. If this is the case, then try to do less of a pop shove it. Less scooping and popping downward instead can help. Also try poking more of your toes over the edge when you set up.
You could always just try to spin it more and do a '360 underflip', but those aren't quite as cool because they look almost exactly like 360 flips.
Problem: It all works but I can only get half a flip! Answer: You're very close then. If it's because the board boosts up to your feet before you are ready, poke less of you toes over the edge when you set up. If it's because you land on it too soon, try to do the flip a little bit earlier.
Where Do I Go From Here?
If you've learnt these, then impossibles and 360 underflips aren't too far off if you like those tricks. There are a bunch of other strange variations. Experiment!
yea dont forget to mention that if you flick from too far under the board it flies out infront of you! you need to flick at that perfect spot under the edge or it goes wrong and many different things could happen
That is all.
