Backside pop shove its are one of the first tricks you're going to learn in skateboarding. But as simple as they are, it's also a trick you're going to be doing years down the road after learning them.
They're an essential part of very many other tricks, so you'll want to spend some time really making this one look good.
And remember, this is backside. This means the tail is going to be spinning behind you.
What You Need to Know
Ollie
Considering this is one of the first things you'll learn skating, there's not a terribly large amount of things you need to know how to do before giving this one a shot. However, you're going to want to know how to ollie.
What You May Find Useful:
You might find this trick to be easier to catch on with if you're able to do simple shove its (without popping them).
Doing The Trick
Positioning:
The back foot serves as more important than the front foot in this trick. There are many locations you can place it on the skateboard, but I suggest you put it somewhere very close to the middle of the tail. This position will allow you to give an easy and light spin of the tail as well as allowing you go get a very solid pop.
The front foot can also be place in multiple locations. For this trick, I'd say you want to have it placed just a few inches behind the front bolts on your skateboard. Have enough foot on the deck to maintain comfort and have just a slight angle made with your foot.
Motion:
Be riding at a comfortable speed and have your feet set up as explained above.
The starting of this trick depends all in your back foot. When you're ready to execute, pop the tail of your skateboard like you would an ollie. Right as the tail smacks the ground, give your back foot a slight roll to push the tail behind you. This will make the board begin it's spin.
As you do this, jump. Suck your legs up and watch the board rotating beneath you, getting both feet out of the way. The trick shouldn't take too long to finish, as it's only spinning 180 degrees. Right as the deck is about finished with its rotation, push your feet down to catch the board.
The catching of this trick is done with the front foot. Have it land directly over the bolts with your back foot just a bit behind.
Land this trick and absorb impact. Make sure you don't catch this trick early and land with the board moving at an angle, as this will make riding away very difficult and cause the trick to look quite sloppy.

Troubleshooting
Pop shove its can offer up a plate of problems. If you're having troubles learning this trick, check out below and find the solution you need.
-The board starts flipping while it rotates, resulting in me landing on it upside down or primo.
This is a common problem and a mistake that's very easy to make. What's causing this is your back foot. You need to make sure that when you're popping that your back foot is centered on the tail.
-The board is either spinning less than 180 degrees or more than 180 degrees
This can be prevented multiple ways. Firstly, when you begin to execute this trick, you need to make sure that you're putting proper amount of spin into the tail. Spinning it too hard will cause over rotation and not spinning it enough will cause under rotation. Try to find the best amount of force to put into it.
Also, you want to make sure that you're not trying to catch it too early or too late. Catching the skateboard while it isn't straight can lead to a few problems. So while you're up in the air watching to board rotate, make sure you get your feet back on the deck at the correct time.
-The board gets away from me. I can't seem to keep it under my body
This problem occurs because of an error concerning the back foot. You are likely spinning the board too hard during the pop, thus making control over it nearly impossible. It doesn't take a lot of strength to make a complete 180, so reconsider the strength you put into it.
Also, this problem could be happening because of the direct you're moving your back foot. It's possible that when you're pushing it behind you, you're doing so at an angle. Try to make sure you sweep your back foot straight behind you.
-Okay, so I get the rotation and form correct, but when I land my feet are out to the sides of the deck
This error is usually due to improper upper body movement. When you start this trick, your shoulders should be parallel with the skateboard deck. So when you're up in the air, down turn your upper body. Stay in the same position and just wait for this trick to come back around.
Moving your upper body can result in your feet not being in proper locations to catch the board. If you do catch it, however, it's likely this one is going to shoot out on you. So remember that it's very important you don't let yourself turn.
Where Do I Go From Here?
This trick is something that be taken in so many directions. You have things like 360 pop shove its, big spins, pop shove rewinds, and things like that.. Then you also have variations with flip trick included, such as varial kickflips and inward heelflips.
I can't tell you which trick you need to move onto from this point. With all of the doors that this trick opens up, you should give a good bit of thought into where you'd like to go from here based on your preferred style.
Either way you go, you're going to find that having good control over pop shoves is going to help you out. You shouldn't try to move on right after learning this one, give it proper time to get it cleaned up and consistent.
Good luck.
Can someone please help me. I already tried the tips from the guide but my board still won't stay under my body. (is it possible that theres something wrong with my board)

Goes to the left? Are you goofy or regular footed?
If it isn't going too far away from you, perhaps you can just jump a little bit higher and hold your legs up a bit longer. Give yourself more time to spot your landing, maybe.
Try some different positioning with your back foot and try adjusting the force you put onto the tail to make it spin.
Yeah, I remember now. Can't use codes in the introduction. Thanks for pointing that out.
