The B/S 180 Late Flip is considered one of the more "advanced", or "harder" tricks by most. It combines a b/s 180 rotation, with a late flip. Basically the board turns in a clockwise(regular), or counterclockwise(goofy) motion with the skater then quickly flicking the board with his/her back foot, which then makes the board spin late, hence "late flip". The stance is similar, if not exactly like the ollie position. Some have their back foot closer to the heel side, some don't. It's all about what you feel most comfortable with when trying this trick.
There's a b/s 180 motion in the trick, so those are a MUST. The Kickflip is just a recommendation just so you have the basic feel of the board flipping under your feet. Late flips though are also a must because it's part of the trick as well.
Other Skills:
Make sure you can do fully rotated b/s 180's. You'll need to because this trick is hard to land if you try to pivot most of the 180.
What You May Find Useful:
Before popping the 180, wind your shoulders up a little. This helps get the full 180 rotation easier.
Doing The Trick
Positioning:
For your foot placement, have your front foot just below the front bolts, about an inch or so behind them. Then have your back foot covering the tail, just like for an ollie.
Motion:
1. Setup like you would do for an ollie, or b/s 180.
2. Pop your tail, and start moving in the direction of a b/s 18 depending on what stance you are).
3. Once you have leveled your b/s 180, and it's at the peak height, quickly, but lightly flick the board with your back foot.
4. The board should be spinning right now, and once it's fully rotated, you want to catch with your front foot, and spot your landing.
5. Once you have both feet back on the board, absorb the impact by bending your knees a little, and center your weight above the board.
6. Roll away with steez.
Video Trick Tips:
Troubleshooting
1. You're just doing a b/s 180.
-Pop higher so you can have enough time to get your back foot off the board to be able to flick it quick enough to get the late flip.
2. You're getting the full b/s 180, but the board only flips half way.
-You're popping it properly, and you understand when to flick and everything, you just need to flick lighter. With late flips, the harder you flick, the less of a chance you'll get full rotation because you're having to flick down, instead of out for most fliptricks. Make sure you're not giving it a full flick, but just a light tap, and it should fully rotate. If not, you'll have to make some adjustments of when you should start the flicking motion to get the flip.
3. You get the flip, but only a b/s 90.
-You have the flicking motion down but you need to either pop higher to have enough time to get that extra 90 degrees, OR you need to wind your shoulders up before popping because this will drastically help getting the full 18 much easier.
Now I know what i'm doin wrong with mine.
