The nollie varial flip:
Alright The nollie varial flip, now this is actually a very easy trick to do once you have a good overall board feel and have the basics of nollie down. Well a few tricks you should have before you start trying this trick are:
-Nollie Pop shove it
-Nollie flip
-Fakie Varial flip(Just so you have the feel of the trick)
Now once you get those down lets get started. As you should know a varial flips is a combination of a kickflip and a bs pop shove it. And obviously a nollie varial flip is a varial flip done from nollie position. It actually is an easy trick, so lets start.
Set up:
For this trick, the set up is quite simple. You should set up almost exactly like a nollie flip. Your front foot is on the nose of the board with the ball of your foot in the "pocket" of the nose. Sort of like a tre. You dont have to hang your toes off, but I seem to be able to get a good scoop off it by doing it like that. Your back foot should be set up sort of like a nollie flip, except I like to hang my heels a little bit off more and point my foot about 45 degrees. Now once your comfortable with your set up go on to the execution.
Execution:
Start rolling at a comfortable speed. Not slow, but not super fast. I actually find that this trick is easier if I'm rolling at an above normal speed. Anyway, when you do this trick there are basically two things you have to do to get the flip. First off: Pop down with your front foot on the nose. Pop down hard, this trick is surprisingly easy to pop high. So pop down hard with your front foot while simultaneously scooping it behind you slightly. Now you do not need a huge scoop like a tre flip. But a light scoop and a hard enough pop will do the trick for you. Now once you pop and scoop the second thing you have to do comes into play: The flick. While you pop the back foot drags up the board and as it's popped you flick out. The flick is actually really easy. If you have nollie flips down really well, it should be second nature to you. Make sure you get an adequate flick or the board will not flip all the way.
Land:
While the board is flipping in the air watch it. This part is sort of knacky, when I do my nollie varial flips I actually rotate the board about 45 degrees before it starts flipping so I have to pay special attention to that. The flip usually finishes spinning after the board stops rotating so you have to watch and wait and when you see the grip tape about to come around you bring your feet down and catch. You should be catching with your back foot, or even better catching with both feet at the same time. As long as you catch it it's okay though. As long as you catch bolts and the board has finished rotating, you should have no time sticking, landing, and rolling away from this trick extremely clean.
Wrap up:
SO basically just remember:
Nollie flip set up, Scoop HARD, flick, catch bolts and land.
Have fun with it and Happy skating!
