A new page entry has been added:

Improving Your Style

Quote:
HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR STYLE

First off let me speak, many of you guys that know me and have seen me skate in the past, are probably thinking: What does Ghost know about style? His style is garbage. Actually, that was a long time ago, about 4 months was the last time I posted footy with bad style up. My last video about a month ago my style had improved significantly. I took advice from a lot of you guys and stopped learning new tricks and worked on style. So my style is great now. Anyways on to the article.

So. you have garbage style like I had, your friends complain about it a lot, when you post footy on SB-C you get flamed for your style and you're now wondering how to improve it. Well I have a few tips for you.

Nice. My style has improved today. I'm riding a Mini-Logo deck with some Royal Trucks that are fairly tight. Its a BIG step-up from my Alien Workshop with mismatched trucks. I heelflipped a ledge and ollied a 4 set. Progression and improvement of style feels quite nice.

Good guide. But here are some of my main ones that I try not to do

Flail arms around

Tick- Tack

Make sure when you push your pushing foot isn't way far out of the board. It makes you look uncomfortable. Make sure your foot is in a good spot.

Try not to keep your legs straight. Bend your legs. This is very helpfull. Try to bend your legs when you land.

Oh yeah, when you land do not do a handplant on the ground like slide or put your hands on the ground

Good tips, don't you think "Improving you style" sounds like a oxymoron?

Style comes from the little quirks and tidbits of yourself, fallowing a guide like everyone else then you lose your individual look and become like every one else.

I don't know, just my thoughts.

I agree. Style needs to be something that needs to be unique and come naturally. Atleast writing something about it will get more kids thinking about it, though.

None of that helps if you have low, underrotated, non-catched tricks with sketchy landings. My only problem is flailing arms.

This post is a waste of time. You don't even know what style is. Style can't be learned. It's something that you're given the moment you first step on a skateboard. What you're teaching is how to skate clean. Which is a style, but not style itself.

He's just telling you how to skate MORE stylishly as some people can do a lot of tricks but really lack in style so you'd think they suck.

I have like the worst style ever. No, seriously. Many of my friends think's so too.
My problem is that i..i don't know. They just say i look like a retard:P

But i startet to train my back as well as arms and chest, because my back is kinda round, not flat:s So, i hope that can help my style..i've also heard that when i do an ollie, and i do an high ollie, i have my arms behind my back:s

Watch a lot of pro videos to decide on what kind of style you want. Practice skating a lot, find a board that feels comfortable to you, get comfortable with riding in your new style, and soon you should be having good style.

-Ghost
No offense but thats the shittiest advice. Dont watch a pro vid and copy someones style. Skateboardings about creativity, individuality and so forth. Not copying someone. Get your own style, and over the years it will come. Style comes over years because you grow more confident on your skateboard and tricks become easier. It's not gonna come in one day, and you cant practice it really because it will just come over time. So go out and have fun skating, who cares if your not the steeziest skater in the park. Give it a few years and you'll be rollin with style.
