I think it's cool as long as it's constructive, Airblaster.

nice comparison. i go to tae kwon doe and need 4 more belts till black belt. and im a street skater. yet, tae kwon doe helps u in street. doesnt help u in vert. i even landed a trick i made up ixing karate with skateboarding. you do a back kick while ollieing, and hit the side of the concave like a kickflip, and the board does a varial/360 flip/pop shuv/360 shuv

By all means, feel free to demonstrate where my metaphor fails.

ps
I have a competitive background spanning over 10 years in Tang Soo Do and Tae Kwan Do.

might i add that they are two martial arts based on point scoring tip-tap ***** try brazilian jujitsu, or in fact any martial art which is effective outside of a controlled enviroment. and your metaphor fails as soon as it starts comparing skateboarding to martial arts. look at the title of the thread, ''skateboarding, a martial art?'' can you be serious? martial arts are for learning to defend yourself, they wernt made for competing, they were made for applying the skills in fight situations, and over the years all this competition bullshit has started. i can see the comparissons you are making, but to be honest i think its totally ridiculous that you can consider riding a board with wheels a martial art. *prepares for flaming off n00bs*

I'm not going to flame you, I'll just inform you that you missed the part of the article that says that my favorite metaphor for skateboarding is the practice of martial arts. As a metaphor, the comparisons stand as illustrated.

If you seriously think that the article was written to somehow come to the conclusion that skateboarding in and of itself is some form of fighting, then the problem is your reading comprehension, and the concept of metaphor.
