Tips on Tricks

Quote:
Though Skateboard-City is a great place to get "Trick tips", practicing skateboarding in itself is the best way to learn new tricks. Skateboarding, when you really think of it, is really just the manipulation of your body's weight and muscles. To do a kickflip, or an ollie, or simply just to ride the board, you need to shift your weight from side to side, bend your knees, turn your hips, your shoulders... and this idea is exactly what I'm talking about.
So this guide is for those people who want to get tips on practicing tricks in general, not a guide for a specific trick.

This guide helped me get my fakie toeside (i.e. f/s) 180s alot cleaner, because I thought about the pop and how I coordinated my shoulders and arms. It also lead me to try a couple nollie kickflips, to try to understand why I can't do them as opposed to my regular kickflips. This eventually lead to the tail of the board slamming into my hand and leaving a swollen, bruised area just below the knuckle.

Simply put, this guide helps 180s but (apparantly) not nollie kickflips.

Default How do you land a kickflip on the bolts?

Everytime I do a kickflip, I always land on the front. My front foot is always on the nose, and my backfoot is always on the middle. How do I fix that problem?

Another big factor is confidence. If you want to do a trick, but do not have the confidence to do it, you won't land it. You have to be confident and commit. You can't just pop and step away and let the board do the work. You have to be above the board at all times and watch it underneath you. No confidence = no tricks landed. Hope this helps.

Wow. I already knew about the whole shoulders thing, but I never even thought about using my arms to increase upward momentum. Sounds like it would work. I thought you didn't skate though... How do you know this?

The other day, i realized the importance of stabilizing muscles in your legs- the small ones that help keep your balance and decided to take some time to develop them. I just rode around flamingo style on one foot and tried to keep my balance. It was actually pretty tough with my right foot (I ride regular). So now, I feel more balanced when I set up for tricks : ]
