i just got a skateboard fer christmas but its from a toy store so im not sure if i shuld keep it or get 1 from an actual skate store

A board is a board, no matter how sucky it is.
Just keep it and learn how to do tricks until you get a pro model. |

it will probably be easier to learn tricks on a pro board, but whatever floats you're boat.

i had 2 crappy boards before a got a deck from the skate shop, but it doesnt really matter what board u hav aslong as ur havin fun

learn to ride and balance and maybe ollie on that, once u feel comfortable enough to start doin more complex stuff like basic tricks (kickflip, shoveit, heelfip ect...) u might wanna get a pro/blank/shop deck
btw ur gunna need new trucks/wheels/bearings as well with ur new board |
