Ok, first off as long as a company produces quality products for a reasonable price then I could care less on who's cashing out from me. You're acting as if skater owned companies have different intentions than any other corporations. Sure, they may know more about skating and thus create good products- which is great of course- but at the end of the day what all companies want is money.

That being said, think about this company specifically. Gatlyn has been getting alot of attention recently because he is a great skater that sprung up out of almost nowhere. He then got the sponsors and got to the status that he deserved, but then he did something I don't respect: he tried to cash out on it. I mean really, its not like he's producing Scoff laces or anything with even the slightest bit of innovation. He's literally taking 2 dollar beanies and slapping a cool word on them.

Not all skater owned companies look for money. There are some underground companies skatermade that most people don't even know about, but without those guys, skate scenes in certain areas would be dead by now for sure. Also you make it seem like the whole skate industry is filled with money grubbing jews and that's totally not true. Some companies do help skating for the love of skating and just getting the extra money helps them to do just that.

I do agree the beanies are overpriced, but what skate clothing product isn't anyways. I got Josiah's back on this one. For one, I don't think a skater has made a company just on beanies so that's pretty cool. Two, it's a beanie company not a deck company or something so it's not like he wants to cash out hard, and three, those beanies he has are just the OG Usko beanies so of course they will look regular ass. I'm sure the other designs will be different from those regular ones.

I have nothing against skater owned companies. In fact, I even agree with you that some of these companies even keep some scenes alive.

Second, I don't wanna portray the skate industry as money-grubbing- that was the least of my intentions. I just feel that people like Bombin think skater owned companies are some benevolent, angelic beings while the bigger companies are evil, money hungry monsters. In reality, I see them on an equal plain as along as they produce quality products.

The only thing I really disagree with you about is that being over-priced is a regularity in skate clothes. That may be true for the well known companies but alot of the grass roots companies over here- the ones that I truly see as contributions to skating- are selling their shirts and decks for dirt cheap just to keep the company alive.

You don't know how much he's making off of skateboarding, or the beanies. You realized you are making assumptions without knowing any real details right?

It doesn't matter how much he's making off of it. How is that the slightest bit relevant? The fact is that: 1. He's garnered a good amount of exposure lately. 2. He created a company in the midst of this attention. 3. The company consists of regular beanies with a word slapped on it.

The only thing I'm assuming is that he created a company to make money- but I'd say that's a fairly safe assumption cuz well y'know thats the point of a business...
