Skateboard Dictionary *I searched Sb-c and nothing came up so i should be good. More Pics coming soon! TRICKS/TERMS Pop: A simple trick maneuver where the skater slams his/her tail down as he jumps into the air. Causing his/her board do pop off the ground. Backside/Frontside: Backside is when the tail of your skateboard goes inback of you, and frontside is when the tail goes infront of you. Goofy/Regular: Goofy is riding your board with right foot forward, and left foot pushing. Regular is when you skate with you left foot forward and right foot pushing. Mongo Footed: People who skate mongo push with their front foot instead of their back foot. Grind: Sliding on an object (like a curb, ledge, rail, etc.) using your trucks. For example: 5-0, 50-50, nosegrind, etc. Slide: Sliding on an object (Such as rail, curb, ledge, etc.) using your deck. For example, boardslide, tailslide, noseslide, bluntslide, etc. Fakie: Riding backward on your skateboard. Degrees: Measurement that describes spins, or measuring circles. In skateboarding, describes rotations. For example, 180 degrees (1/2 spin) 360 degrees (1 whole spin) 540 degrees (1 1/2 spin) 720 degrees (2 whole spins) 900 degree (2 1/2 spins) And so on. Credit-Carded: When the skateboard flips vertically, and hits you in the groin. Ouch...Just thinking about it makes my nuts hurt... Razortail: If the tail of your skateboard is worn down, making it thin and sharp, is razortail. Razortail reduces pop, and that's bad. Cause by popping your board or dragging your tail to stop your board. Chickenfoot: When you are scared of getting hurt while performing a trick, you may land with 1 foot or no feet at all. That's called chicken foot. Don't worry, I'm currently searching for a cure. Switch: Riding your skateboard opposite stance. (Regular, skate goofy. Goofy, skate regular) Ollie: Popping the board into the air in order to jump over and object or gap. The board will be attached to the feet. Kickflip: Popping the board into the air, and flicking your toes at the concave of your board, allowing the board to flip its full rotation, and landing on it. Manual: While rolling, lifting the front trucks off the ground and keep riding. Also called the "Wheelie" by noobs or bikers. *More Definitions of Tricks and Terms coming soon! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SKATEBOARD/SKATEPARK PARTS. Deck: The flat, wooden part of the skateboard you stand on. Usually 7 plys of wood, with a graphic on bottom. Example of a skateboard deck.Trucks: The metal part of your skateboard that holds the wheels. Attached to your deck. The parts of the trucks include: Base, axle, kingpin, hanger and bushings. skateboard trucks.Baseplate: The bottom part of your trucks that are bolted into the deck. Axle: Hold the wheels on the to the trucks. Its metal, and runs through the hanger. Hangar: The basic part of the skateboard truck. The part you grind with. Bushings: The kind of rubbery things in your trucks. 2 per truck. Makes your ride more flexible. Depends on how tight your trucks are. Skateboard Bushings.Wheels: Obvious what they are. The part of the board that allows you to roll. Bearings: 2 per wheel. Makes the wheels roll, basically. They're round, and they're made of stell or ceramic. skateboard bearings.Griptape: On the top of your skateboard deck, there is that black grippy sandpaper-like tape called griptape. Its there so your foot doesnt slide off when you skate. Risers: They're optional. They are flexible rubber sheets that go inbetween the baseplate and the deck. Used for a higher ride, or to reduce impact pressure. Nose/Tail: The nose is the front part of the board, and the tail is the back. Concave: The part where the board begins to curve up. Also know as the "pocket". Halfpipe: A U shaped ramp used for vert skating. Quarterpipe: Half a halfpipe. Funbox: A box or table connected to 2 or more ramps. It can have a rail or something too. Picture of a funbox.Rails: A metal placed in skateparks, used fron grinds or slides. A skateboard rail.*More definitions of skateboard parts coming soon! If there is something i missed, post some definitions and i might add them up here. Thanks! Last edited by Volcom_Skate; 03-19-2008 at 08:56 PM.. |

Good luck wasting your time trying to perfectly elaborate what everybody already knows by now.
I'm sure that everyone that comes to this skateboard forum would know what all of that was before they even got here. Just saying. |

It's not worth the work you put into this because it's already been down.

A skating dictionary is dumb. This stuff shouldn't be written in stone and analyzed, it should be learned from friends and skating buddies.

i actually think this is a good/bad idea
Good because then we won't have idiots in skating gettin the terms wrong and it's kinda funny Bad because if others(non-skaters) look at this, then we'll have more of a "preppy fag acting/dressing skater" trend going. But kas is a preacher. that's the true way things should be learned |
