yes i have a macbook pro and i would highly recommend getting one. it was required for my college film courses, and i got a huge student discount on final cut pro so it was pretty much a win win situation for me. other than the fact that it completely drained my savings and checking accounts, i have 0 dollars to my name
i like editing on it way more than my old desktop now |

hmm ok thanks. plenty of hard drive space on it for video files? and does it automatically detect when you hook your camera up to it with firewire, or do you just capture in FCP?

my HD is 300 gigs, and i have a 500 gig external, and i always capture in FCP
dont get the 13", they dont have firewire ports from what i hear. the 15" and above should have firewire 800 ports, so you may need a new cable. luckily, my external has a port for the old firewire, and connects into the 800 |

oh alright. well i always capture through windows video import because that's what pops up with i hook up my camera. it works well and it automatically stores my files into my video folder. i was just curious if mac's have a program like this.

mk. this worries me because even when window's detects my camera, none of my editing programs will. i'll go to capture and it says that no camera is connected. this stuff confuses me hah.

So was I dude, then I got a mac and I am so glad I did. This thing does everything! Once you figure out how to operate it, it is so easy and fun to use.

if not, try to torrent that shit. the program was still pricey with my discount, it was 399 through my college's apple store (also got a discount on the macbook), but it came with FCP, compressor, color, cinema tools, soundtrack pro, and dvd studio pro, though so far ive only really used FCP and compressor. i would like to use the color corrector, but im still in the process of figuring it out haha

yeah but you can run pc programs on a mac. i've seen someone running after effects on a mac. and i've seen websites where tech people were explaining how to run vegas on mac. i was wondering how it was done.

^Parallel desktops or bootcamp. I suggest parallel desktops though, basically it's just 2 of the Operating Systems running at the same time, really easy to use. If you get a mac, and you need help on it, just hit me up, I use it and I play loads of games on the PC side. and do all my work on the Mac

Not that I know of...but parallel desktop is really easy to install, and use, and it's handy for other shit too that isn't compatible for mac.
Bootcamp, I don't know in geek terms, but I THINK (not sure) it seperates your harddrive so that it also has a Windows partition, and you have to restart everytime you want to switch between Mac and Windows, whereas Parallel desktops you don't. Search it up though, I'm not too sure. |

It's not a bad idea if you are going to be using windows video apps on your mac to do this because you can also use that same partition as a startup disk with Parallels. So you have the option of booting directly into Windows and running your apps at full performance or running Windows on top of OS X for the time's you don't feel like booting directly into Windows or just need to do some quick things. I usually setup ~20gig partition just for windows or less depending on how many apps you are going to install with it. (All video and audio files should be on an external FW or USB2 drive @ least 7200rpm anyway for video editing.) |

crossover mac is another program that lets you install windows format programs onto macs. you'll need to find a keygen for it unless you want to buy it though

I film more than this entire forum put together. You do the math. PFFFFTTTTTTTT Casual. I was thinking the same thing. Then I got a macbook pro. Lemme put it this way. Portability, safety, ease of use, Best compression built in, girls will love you. +1 Mac. Building a good PC. Stuck at home, going through a bunch of installation shit, good compression has to be bought, and its easier to get caught cracking. Girls will never see it. Thus NO LOVE. Quote:
Nah. It will run the programs for you. But since its running a simulated windows bottle, it has nowhere to actually save the program's exported files. The best bet is to use parallels or another choice. The best part about Mac is Little snitch. Pretty much the best thing ever for people strapped on cash. EDIT: I personally plan on getting a 500GB WD HDD and installing it on my MBP. Why? Oh the glory of my plan... 250GB to Windows 7. 250GB to Snow leopard. Via partition and bootcamp. Can anyone say Best portable editing device ever? Goddd. I can't wait. 13" of portability, power, tons of programs, protection. The works! Last edited by late_flip; 1 Week Ago at 12:53 PM.. |
