Default Are shock pads or riser pads essential?

I was wondering if any of these pads serve a more smooth ride or any important things. Can anyone tell me what are the pros or cons or are they essential? Thank you! :)

shock pads and riser pads are different. shock pads give you a smoother ride, and prevent stress cracks from forming in your board. riser pads only add height between your board and wheels. good if you are avoiding wheelbite, and i think they prevent stress cracks a little also. i hate the feel of both though.

I've always ridden with shock pads and it does'nt seem differnt to me and they really do protect against pressure cracks.

If you're gonna use a deck fora long time (like 4months +) then you might wana use them. Pressure cracks help the board flatten out and loose concave. But if you know a deck isn't going to last very long anyways, they are totally optional.

I use riser pads to stop the trucks damaging the deck, I still can kickflip and stuff with it, it's fine with me.
