So how is skating in NL? As far as the scene and also in general like laws, terrain, and getting around and whatnot? I am from California and would like to consider getting a practical cruiser for transport and ideally still hit up some indoor parks every once in a while and some chill street skating. Some interesting 8.5 58mm setup. Do you know around how much a decent one would cost out there? Are there any shops? Websites? Good countries nearby to buy in?

I'd be fine with a shop blank, am partial to Indy trucks but don't really care much, would prefer good bearings, and will probably just be a Bones whore for wheels.

Does it sound doable to replace a bike for what I'd like? My college will be ~2 miles from my housing, but I will possibly take public transportation there, for sure to anywhere far.

depends, in what city will you take refuge?

I live in the hague, we have one famous spot here (as far as famous goes around here).
going to places on a board is near perfect in the netherlands because we have the longest bikeroads in the world, so next to almost every road, there is a small road where you could ride your board (9/10 times smooth flatground). As far as the skaters go, thats why I never started skating, I dont like most people who skate or umm Id rather not get associated with them thats why I only go skate at like 2 am. But I am sure that is just my way of thought. I actualy met a pretty cool guy this week who says he can tre flip and go down 7 stairs so I am excited to skate with him.

I have one local shop who mostly sells toy machine and shop decks.
We also have bigger skatestores I wont say like zumies rather more like ccs with shops, the people who work at this shop know something about skateboarding to my knowledge.

    local shop: http://manusskateshop.nl/
    local/ online shop: http://www.skatestore.com/

To my knowledge there arent any laws around skateboarding nor have I ever seen a sign that says skateboarding is illegal on this property, there arent skatestoppers anywhere to my knowledge.

Skateboarding was kinda big here around 2002-2007.

as for a cruiser, I dont really see the point in buying one, you wont do kickflips with so why not make an old dekc into a cruiser, just change the trucks and get some nice big soft wheels, maybe even cut your board into a cruiser shape.

unless you have some spare money ofcourse

I'll be staying in Arnhem. Is it sketchy skating on the bike roads? I can imagine they could be fairly busy/fast in some places. Do you get hassled for being on the sidewalk?

Thanks for the links though I'll look into them.

And it's just an idea I came up with. I'd like to imagine I can kickflip a 8.5 alright. Tres will probably be out of the question but I usually skated 8.0-8.1 anyways. May end up standing on an 8.35 or something and like it.

The thing is though I'm studying abroad for a year so I'd have to pay for the extra baggage fee most likely which could probably end up being around the same price for parts if I pick them well enough. Coming home I'd have to bite the bullet either way or just sell it out there. Not a fan of the cruiser shape though haha, I'm practical, and I don't have any decks laying around in the size range I want. The two I know off the top of my head are smaller and pretty beat up. I do have some Bones Super Swiss 6's I might just throw into a bag to save a nice chunk of change though. So I guess that probably leaves a shop deck, trucks, and wheels which isn't too bad I hope. I figure it's either this or buy a bike (probably cheaper yeah) but I would enjoy skating much more I think.

what I personally do is ride my bike with my skateboard hanging on to it.

The bike lanes are big enough and as long as you dont destroy anyones shins on the sidewalk, there shouldnt be a problem.

I am just learning how to skate but if I get any better we should skate together sometime, maybe even smoke one if you are into that.

Yeah if I find a bike for 15 euro or some shit I'll probably grab one, but I feel like I probably won't want to spend more on a bike that will probably fall apart if I try to do anything fun on it haha. And don't want to buy a nice bike since I'm not a biker and it will only be temporary.

And it's all good man. I've "skated" for ~10 years now but I was never crazy good. And I haven't really skated much at all over the last 3-5 years or so. I'll be coming back rusty but enthusiastic. Definitely smoke one, maybe two, or three. If you're really into that we can try the truffles too lol.
