I'm starting to look at new wheels for a longboard I just completed and have noticed that some have a slotted (open) core and some have the traditional closed core. I can't seem to find any good info on why they do this. My guess is that the openings allow for a minor amount of core compression to provide a better ride on rough roads. Or they could just be for weight savings. Maybe a little of both, at any rate I haven't been able to find any good info on them and would like to get some.

My current setup is a 42" drop through/drop deck with some OJ III Hot Juice wheels. I've been looking at a couple styles of Boss Hawgs in 70mm/80a. I'm just using this board as a cruiser, but the roads I've got suck. They're asphalt with lots of cracks and patches. Anyone have any wheel recommendations for a rider at almost 200lbs? Thanks.
