It's a long story
I have been a member here since about 2005 and since then visited once in awhile. I just now started posting a few times and noticed that there is almost no activity in footage sharing. Back in '05 there were probably near a dozen new videos posted a day. Not to mention there was about 30 registered users visiting everyday.
What happened, why is the place so quite now?
It just died down. It got worse since I joined in 2014 too.
So what is the story? I am wondering?
I know the site at some point added a front page with a bunch of random stuff, originally it was just a forum. Now I see that all the layout and everything has changed majorly.

It's not just this site. The forum layout is dead. Reddit/insta/etc is where everyone is now.
Ah so social media is partly or majorly responsible for this?
We are slowly being killed off
"You are the only one i want between my legs"
"Im inflicting bloodshed upon bitches, just because i hate the female race"
"People are like parasites, worms, infected with disease"
Yeah, 2014 is more active than 2017. It really is on the decline. We gotta be more welcoming to new members. Make them feel at home.
The user base you know has aged out, I am also from 2005 so I understand what era you mean in activity. You couldn't keep up with page 1 of General off topic even if you refreshed every 10 seconds.
The users today have more options for internet than the users did from 12 years ago, current social media just spoon feeds everything to the user. Content is also changing and how people view and interact with it has changed.
We had multiple site lay outs and with each new lay out we slowly started losing the population, some out of protest about the change and others just didn't care to come back even if we didn't change.
Hobbies come and go while interests change, I don't see people using this site if they don't skateboard and don't care for the "community" of the members here. Guru forum was really the biggest change that while at the time felt good to implement but was ended up alienating the rest of the user base. Excluding members started a divide in the post quality, it was like the gurus were the 1% and the rest of the board was the 99% that couldn't get that exclusivity of private boards.
Private boards started when we had people donate money to the site and get a special colored name and their own section of the board to post in, the multiple segregated sections just kept splitting the user based and when you look at what was left for the "non special" people the magic was gone.
The conversations we had back then might not have been any good to begin with when you look back with an older and more experienced perspective.
These newer members from the last 3-4 years say we're too rude to new members and make this an inhospitable place to visit but that was actually the charm of the site back in the day, you could just show up here and shit post your heart out insulting other members and posting things to piss moderators off like harelquin babies with short sentences like "Cool story bro" or "free matt".
Tom-E who runs the site is for the most part always missing in action too, so there's not much to do with this slowly sinking ship when the captain was the first one off the boat with the 1 only life vessel we had in reserve.
Dang, that really sucks. I miss those days. People would post their videos everyday... I would do the same. I miss seeing the new people just starting out... and the people learning and doing all the weird tricks in their garage or basement, tricks like dolphin flips. And there was enough people... all those games of skate... dang :(.
you could really check the pulse of the website back in the day by viewing the "logged in" members and then seeing what they were looking at for threads, usually if they opened a thread to look at there would be a reply as well. Over time people started logging in to look only and not comment, this really effected people uploading videos in the skate section who wanted feedback and possible improvement tips.
Content creators also felt the sting of the seen but never heard user base and we slowly lost all of them.
We had some cool business connections here for a minute, my favorite is Jason (Scoffman) he was making the best shoelaces I ever had the pleasure to ride, it was like a upper body work out trying to put the laces into my high tops. He didn't have laces long enough so I sent in my own laces for him to cover with his secret recipe.
We've also had some users who posted content end up doing great things on camera, although that's very rare compared to the total amount of users registered here.
I have have a bias for users with the name jason, I feel like it's a good name.
Pretty awesome contest there.
Ah I miss the old days.
Damn I guess its too late for me
I just joined in 2020...
I bet i have a further join date than you, joined too late blues
I was never active
Just found my account and my other one at skaters cafe. Damn I miss the old days, but I'm glad I'm no longer a stupid kid haha. At least skating is popular again, only got back into it last month and I'm relearning all my tricks pretty easily since quiting in 2010.
It might've affected activity a little bit, but I think forums are just becoming a thing of the past. The Slap boards have a "guru" forum and is still plenty active.
Also, we are looking back at this through a golden lens. Would your adult self care to read threads about people smoking pot for the first time or getting a blowjob?
