Stop that milk shit. 20 pounds is kinda dumb. Most of that is going to be fat. You can do what you want, but what's gonna happen is your gonna build some muscle, put on a decent bit of fat, and then keep doing that until you're like fuck I got way too fat and then have to cut that fat away. The GOMAD shit is for kids that basically look like they've just gotten out of Auschwitz. From what I recall you don't need that. Eat at a surplus, but enough to keep it in check, and lift and get plenty of rest. Really your goal should be looking good NEXT summer. Because you don't have much time until this one and unless you hop on gear the progress is very very slow. So you may as well spend the time doing it right so that when next summer comes you are made in the shade (and then the summer after that even better etc etc).

Trust me. I got too fat.

A gallon of milk a week isn't too bad. Doesn't gomad make you drink a gallon or two per day?

Yeah... I got too fat too. Lol this coming from someone who was complaining about not having much of an appetite.
Just eat at a small surplus and forget the idea of gaining all that weight quickly.

My BMI is 17.5 so ya, pretty much. I get what you're saying though, try to eat surplus and gain steadily.

I just noticed that my left pec is noticeably bigger than my right, specifically in upper chest. Any tips on how to even that out?

I dunno bmi number ratios whatever. All I know is that yeah you may look fuller but a lot of it is far. But do what you like. As for the imbalance. Dumbbell work. If it's your upper do incline db press. The smaller side may be weaker so just do more work for it. But honestly I would just focus on benching and doing incline as an accessory if you choose to. You don't have much muscle and eventually you'll fill out. If you start picking apart all your imbalances you'll be doing a bunch of weird shit. Your body will catch up since you've just started. My right side lats are bigger from digging holes and moving soil and twisting down and lifting from that side of my body at my job. Just doing exercises that hit my lats completely the left has almost gotten the same size. I don't DB row either so I don't isolate the one side.

Its fine for one to do a split, but I would focus on compounds as your main movements and then do accessory work that improves those compounds and helps with volume and hypertrophy. For instance today is my push day. So I'm doing flat bench as my main movement and that's in like a 5x5 range and then incline and overhead press at higher range with more volume. Then tricep and shoulder work for looks as well as the transfer towards bench with stronger triceps. Next push I'll swap the rep range on bench and ohp. And honestly for me I don't care about strength as much as many in this thread, so on some days where I'm struggling with heavier sets (tired, haven't ate well, whatever) I'll just do drop sets or something.

Its ya up to you to decide what you want. From my experience you need to pick what your goal is and stick to it. thats the biggest thing. Don't hop on a powerlifting program if all you care about is looking good for the beach. You'll get bored/not happy with results and eventually either stop working out or you'll eventually want to switch it up. You can get stronger doing bodybuilding type splits. It just isn't the main focus and thus happens more slowly.

lol I put on 20lbs in like a year. but then again I don't eat much.

@bobziggen if I could give you one tip, make sure you make your meals enjoyable, that way you look forward to eating and the weight will come very quickly. Force feeding is torturous

He's talking about putting 20 on in 3 months. Large difference. And 20 in a year is solid as a natty if spread out evenly as a beginner with hardly any muscle. But yeah even if I was skeletor gomad just seems terrible lol.

yeah I didn't mean that's a reasonable goal. A lb a week would make that just around 12lbs by the summer

The only thing stopping me from early morning workouts is my inconsistent sleep cycle. I should just stop consuming caffeine all together and see how that goes for a week....but I'm an addict so that probably won't happen. Lol

I want to workout first thing in the morning but I just can't snap into it that early. It takes me at least 3 hours to really feel alert enough to lift.

From the advice on the Mafia sign up thread, yeah did some research and found out there were 3 pulls in power clean. Deadlift, triple extension, and rack? Turns out I'm pulling way too much with my arms. I'm not getting the 2nd pull right.

Again I've never read about power cleans but actual ones. The second pull is less like a strict pull up with your arms rather sorta a hip bang and pull while you're pulling yourself under the bar. Watch max effort Olympic lifters cleaning. That bar does not get super high.

    Yeah
If you're use your arms in the movement during the second pull by bending anytime at the elbows you take power out of the movement that should be coming from your legs.

@bubble - Idk about the whole hip bang thing. That might mean youyou're not getting out of way of the bar path quickly enough. During the second pull and extension the bar path should be fairly close to your body and parallel with it. If it's swinging out, there might be a technique issue.

I don't mean banging the bar outward with your hip. I worded that wrong. Just that he should be keeping it close and it's going to rub there and continue with its momentum.

I'm at Keesler right now. I enjoyed BMT, I'd do it again tbh. I graduated with honors too.
I plan on doing a show at my first duty station.
