Starting out... Any recommendations?

Hey guys.
I'm new to the skating scene. I got into it lately and I don't have a board.
My dad recommended Powell to me, they are really cool but the width is too wide and I'm gonna ride street.
I'm younger than most of you guys probably and I'm short for my age. I'm 5'1".
I don't want a crummy board, I want something that will make me feel comfortable.

Any recommendations for starters???

Shoe size 6.5 to 7. My vans are a 6 and they are a bit too small.

Do you guys have a local skateboard shop or maybe something like Zumiez? I'd personally suggest looking at 7.75 for that size shoe, but if you have a shop you can go and actually get a good idea of what the size is. If you are new any board will do really, if you so choose you could shell out like 70-80 for a pretty good complete online

8 may be too wide. I'm a size 8 and I ride a 7.5 but it's all personal prefrence. That said, I ride a Plan B and I like it

Those are all pretty good. Most large name brands will work out just fine, so just find something in your price range and purchase it.

Your shoe size is pretty small, but honestly, it's more about how tall your are than shoe size, when it comes to board width. I suggest going with the 7.75, the skinnier boards are easier to learn tricks on, I ride an 8.5 but I'm thinking of going back to an 8 for a while, just to focus on flatground.

When I first started I used an 8.25 then snapped it someone gave me a 7.7 then I won a 9.25x36 which I love and I'll switch between a 9.25 and a 7.7 so it doesn't really matter just buy one to skate that you like and if it is a actual skate shop just about anything there will work for a beginner. Also you can skate street on whatever you like I'm personally thinking of getting a hosoi deck this summer for street

Yeah those Powell decks are mad old school..... Get a real deck man they are the best!!!!!! DLX is king makes the best boards. Wheels and trucks just go and see for yourself. The popular ones are Thunder, independent, and venture.



Also hell yeah ride big decks! Even though you are 5'1. There's a sick pro named Kevin Bradley who rides a huge deck I think 8.3-5 and he's short as hell with mad pop look him up.

Any deck at a real skateshop will be good enough. Just go with one that's the size you want that you think looks cool. Doesn't matter if it's Powell or Santa Cruz or Chocolate or whatever. If it's at the skateshop it'll be fine.

Just don't get one from a sporting goods store or a retail store (Dicks Sporting Goods, Wal-Mart, Toys R Us, etc)

I'm skating a Real 8.3 right now and I'd recommend it. Just because I've spent a lot of money on decks in the last year and this deck is the one that stood out the most.
