    Default Still can't kickflip :/

I've been skating almost 3 years and still can't kickflip. I learn everything slow as fuck and just feel like I never progress. In three years I've learned to Ollie, shove, fs/bs 180, (and those in fakie too along with bigspins and sketchy as fuck full cabs) fs/bs boards, barely 5050 on a box, and on tranny drop ins, 5050 and 5o's. I can barely ollie a three and it annoys me so much since I love skating but it sucks not being able to do anything decent (I can't skate nollie or switch either). Anyway...

Everytime I try to kickflip, my front foot just wont get on the board. back foot is fine but my front foot ends up infront and to the side of the board. I've tried changing foot positioning, flicking more/less, flicking different ways and jumping higher but literally nothing helps and I end up getting annoyed and wanting to not skate at all since there's ten year olds that are better than me :/

You aren't committing and jumping over the board. Flick straight off the front bolts/pocket (left one if you're regular, right if you're goofy), keep your shoulders parallel with the board and watch the board flip. It's one of those tricks that you have to just tell yourself you're going to land it and keep trying until you finally stick two feet on the board. Focus on your front foot staying with the board and not going out to the side. Some people learn flip tricks super fast, some people take a while. Don't get discouraged because of one trick, it will come over time.

    BradK said it exactly right.

It's a commitment thing. If anything I'd add to what he said, just make sure you stay centered over the board from pop to land. Kick your front foot out and bring it right back in, quickly, like a little mini jump-kick. Just get in the habit of landing with your feet on the board.

One way you can sort of trick your body into this is do an ollie, land it, next trick, a kickflip. Ollie, then kickflip. Sort of train yourself to put your foot back on the board.

My friend, them saying just commit is pointless, i had the same problem as you. practice kickflips while holding onto a hand rail, odd as hell right? trust me, youll land them, or if not, something is not right, now what could possibly be going bad? you aren't jumping high enough. I was told millions of times to commit, and after half a year of it I was like fuck it, and then after i did this rail thing i landed my kickflip. In a day just get used to flipping it right, and if you can do everything perfect with the hand rail then you're only thing to solve is the not jumping high enough

greatdane333's advice is best. All I've got to say is don't get discouraged by what other people do, everyone isn't the same. Just keep at it, really focus on what your body is doing all the time (feet legs hips and shoulders) and remember, skateboarding's supposed to be fun so if your getting frustrated jus do some stuff you like to do and come back to it

You may call it addiction, I call it commitment

oh what the others said is true.
what you're missing is just really comitting to the trick and putting BOTH feet onto the board.
Um, the trick with putting your front foot on the board is think of a stairstep.
you're gonna have to step onto the board.
i had a similar problem where my front foot was always under the board or i'd kick the board.
and all i had to do was bring it OVER the board. I was like trying to bring my front foor back to the board the same way i kicked it out so i kept hitting the board or landing my foot under it.

hope this helps coz i know of a few who actually comitted but didn't know the right action to do.

I was never able to pull off a kick flip either back in the day. I could heel flip all day long but every time I would attempt the kick flip the board would shoo forward. HA!

The fucked up part of it was after realizing that the board would shoot out from me I started to play around with kick flip varials or 360 kick flips and I was able to do those. Ridiculously harder but for some reason the crazy way I tried to kick flip just translated into being able to do this trick with no issues. :D

Hahah! The exact same thing for me. I can perfectly spin a heelflip but whenever i try a kickflip the board flies out infront of me hitting everything in its way (Most of the damage in my board is because of kickflipping xD)
