View Full Version : The darkest souding songs you can think of...

Roboman

What are they? I really want some crushingly dark music. Doesn't have to be metal, preferably very slow. I've been playing songs like Peace Love and Understanding by A Perfect Circle, Twin Peaks Remake by Fantomas, anything by Insomnium, a bunch of Radiohead songs, VAST, some Tool... the sorts of songs where you feel a bit exhaused after listening to them.

Any ideas? Anything you regard as really dark. Maybe the sort of song you can imagine someone commiting suicide to. I dont know. Whatever.

i dunno about dark, but The End by The Doors goes for 11 minutes, is really slow and makes you exhausted.

Its based on that Greek Myth about the guy who kills his dad then marries his mum. kkinda creepy...

Wow all your suggestions suck.

-Anything by on the Cure's "Pornography" album.
-If you want dark as in "holy shit what the hell is this, I'm scared" try Nurse With Wound.
- Try some dark ambient like Current 93 or Lustmord. It makes children cry
-Or you could just look up any early goth rock band, like the Bauhaus.

Noose - Sentenced
Suicidal Dream - Silverchair
No Association - Silverchair
Down in a Hole - Alice in Chains
Angry Chair - Alice in Chains
Zero - Smashing Pumpkins
Black Hole Sun - Soundgarden
Bother - Stone Sour
Comedown - Bush
One Lonely Visitor - Chevelle (it's acoustic and I think...if I'm right you like that)
Learn From This Mistake - Down
The Need - Mushroomhead
Embrace - Mushroomhead
The Nameless Disease (that's the album) - Old Dead Tree..that whole cd is fucking depressing. Every song is written about their drummer who committed suicide.

Anyway that does it for my depressing/dark music.

Well, my friend Mike introduced me to grunge and stuff like that when I met him back 4 years ago. He's 22 so he grew up with all that music, thus passed it on to me and he almost skipped his high school graduation to go see them in Canada but it was when Daniel Jacobs juvenile arthritis acted up and couldn't play. They're his favorite band of all time. But yeah I fucking love Silverchair, and they didn't do extraordinary here, but they got some radio play.

Also, Frogs, Sludge Factory, Dirt, Rain When I Die,...eh you get the point Alice in Chains has a ton of dark/depressing songs.

I didn't add songs like, Discover Me Like Emptiness, Metaphor, The Quiet Place, by In Flames because I was assured you were aware of them.

Nurse With Wound is fucking crazy. They aren't really band that makes music, its more of horrifying noise scape. Its usually weird crying in the distance with a grating sound and some kind of creepy noise. Whenever me and my friends get high and were riding in my car I always play shit like that, and my friend Chris starting freaking out. It awesome

And Lustmord is probably as dark as you can get, it sounds like the elevator music of hell.

Me and my friend were coming back from Nashville we were listing to Xasthur (http://www.myspace.com/xasthurband) and it felt like I was overdosing. Its damn bad feeling. The guy at the store he bought it at said "Be careful this cd will fuck up the best day". Theres no real good songs on his myspace cause most of his songs are about 9 to 12 minutes long, but you can get a feel for how dark the music he does is from myspace. The music is very slow, we were in rush hour or something at night and it felt like we were going to a funeral.

Pink Floyd - "One Of My Turns" sound pretty fucking depressed to me. The part where Waters is half singing/talking is incredibly dark

King Crimson - "Moonchild" is dark too, much more in imagery though and has a very pastoral feel.

Devil Doll - "The Girl Who Was... Death" very weird release by a very weird band. The vocals are some of the most interesting and dark I've ever heard.

Those are the first that come to mind... probably come up with more later

Lots of stuff from Smashing Pumpkins usually has a dark feel to it.
Digital Bath - Deftones
Would - Alice In Chains
Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
Nothing - Skepticism
Sleeping Murder - Shape Of Despair
Eternal Disease - Remembrance
Towers Place - Burning Witch
Dead - Khanate

Some shit I consider extremely dark.

Well if you love Xasthur then you'll like

Sapthuran- Crushing the Prolapsed Oviducts of Virtue (http://media.putfile.com/Sapthuran--Crushing-the-Prolapsed-Oviducts-of-Virtue)
Thou Shalt Suffer- I Seek the Path of Obscurity (http://media.putfile.com/Thou-Shalt-Suffer--I-Seek-the-Path-of-Obscurity-Demo-Version)
Dreamlike Horror (http://www.myspace.com/dreamlikehorror)
Vargsang- Night of the Impaled Whores (http://media.putfile.com/Vargsang--Night-of-the-Impaled-Whores) That one is a faster dark song.

If I stumble across any other ones I will do what Im trying to do better now, help out. But stay away from Sex With Machines they suck!

darkest sounding song i've ever heard

Really? Thats song cheers me up. Origin of Symmety was way darker than Absolution. At least Space Dementia is verging on being one of those push-you-into-the-ground songs.

Lustmord is wierd stuff. Really different by the fact that none of the songs had timing :) Its gonna be damn useful for animations. Current 93 are cool too, they have an odd edge about them. Xasthur (sp?) are cool, I havent heard much yet but they sound awesome so far.

Everyone else: Get 'The Directors Cut' by Fantomas. Mike Patton from Faith No More, his bassist from Mr. Bungle, the Guitarist from the Melvins, the Drummer from Slayer - all got together and have made the darkest album I've everheard*. All remakes of movie theme songs. The remakes of Rosemaries Baby, Twin Peaks and Ave Satani are mad.

I'll keep checking out your other suggestions.

* Apart from my newly discovered dark ambient bands like Lustmore.

Roboman, you have just opened the can of worms. There are tons of scary ambient noise, industrial, and dark ambient bands like that. They're all into some scary shit with occultism, satanism, and all this esoteric shit. Also try Death In June, they aren't scary but are definitely dark as hell.

Mainly I listen to As I Lay Dying, Chaimaira, old Avenged Sevenfold, Demon Hunter, Trivium, and Arch Enemy. Thats just what I usualy listen to.

I said SlipKnot 515 because the choking and screaming for an intro is pretty freaky. To me That is...

You need to check out some better bands than that. Thats all the mainstream metal junk, trust me if you keep into metal you will hate yourself for listening to them later on.

The best metal out there is the ballsy metal bands who put the idea of offensive and heavy before the idea of mellodic and pretty.

Go on myspace and check out bands like Dying Fetus, Demolition Hammer, Napalm Death, Nasum and so on.
