I'd search the boards for this but there's no way to narrow down a search of "pop".. ;-{
I always see people talking about how some boards have better pop than others, and some boards that get used and lose their pop. Well if a deck has different weight I can see how that makes sense, but other than that, I don't get it. How does a board lose its pop? How do I know if my board has good pop or crappy pop? My skate shop sells decks with a custom graphic representing their shop as blanks; it's not truly a blank but it's not a pro board and it's $30, I figure it's a custom blank if you must give it a name, and that's the deck I have.
So what makes for good pop? Lighter boards? :30:
pop is determined by a variety of things. mostly by the moisture content of the wood. Most decks are the same in that department though. The shape and angle of the tail also determine the pop. pretty much all new decks pop the same. Have you read a deck review of someone buying a deck and saying that the pop was terrible? Didn't think so. Decks loose pop from the wood plys waring down from popping the tail. the less wood you have on the tail the worse the pop is going to be. When people use a deck for a long time it looses shape because of all the weight on it all the time. So pop is lost because of that. Also if the deck is exposed to a lot of moisture, the wood can get soggy and loose pop.

you can just tell when its losing pop by riding a friends board thats newish and comparing how high you can ollie on the 2
what ive noticed though, is that when a board is losing pop, if it gets like totally soaked, and then dries out, the pop really comes back. dont ask me how, its a mysterey to me.

Ok cool, thanks. I knew about the lost pop because of razor tails and so if there's less wood there's less mass so the force is consequently reduced. Damn physics classes, I think I learned something... :banana:

When you ollie an old board and feel like you have to pullll the ollie up with you.Then ride a new deck and it feels like the board is actually pushing up against your feet...you'll be enlightened.

yeah, basically how stiff it is, concave helps keep pop, and the type of wood, like think of it this way, you bend a piece of wood, and it snaps back into place quickly, it will have good pop, you bend a piece of old somewhat soggy wood, it slowly goes back into place after you bend it. So the poppy one helps pop you into the air when you ollie
