Common Rider isnt punk. But three "punk" idols compromise them. And they are easily one of the best bands ever.

Anti Flag is shit, they base there name on hating government. So oh hardcore. Dont hate on rap until you actually listen to some, not the Mtv shit. Talk to me in 2 years when you've grown up some to appreciate good music and not some fags screaming into a microphone complaining about hating America because they have shitty credit.

hey I like older rap to but to talk crap about anti-flag cause you dont like them they sing about more then the goverment they sing about alot of issues so just cause you dont like them doesnt mean you should talk crap about them. And for the guy who said rap sucks if you give a listen to alot of older and underground rap they share alot of the same views as punk.

Heres some shitty lyrics from Anti Flag-

Fuck The Flag lyrics
Brainwashing
Piece of Rag
Take it off mast, and stick it up your ass
Now it's time to slaughter
In its fucking honor

What a bunch of fucking shit!

Fuck the flag and fuck you!
Fuck the flag and fuck you!
Fuck the flag and fuck you!
Fuck the flag, the fucking flag, fuck the flag!
Fuck the flag and fuck you!

Heres a flag
Take this match
Burn, that, fucker!

Fuck the flag and fuck you!
Fuck the flag and fuck you!
Fuck the flag and fuck you!
FUCK THE FLAG AND FUCK YOU
YOU FUCKING ASS HOLE!

Hmm what a message, lets go burn a flag because we're hardcore and we're PuNk RaWk!!1! and we wanna see how many times we can say fuck in a song.

They have done alot for punk, and theyre a great overall band. But War On Errorism was a little dissapointing but it had The Separation Of Church And Skate, which has some of the best lyrics in a punk song.

who gives a fuck!?

You like the music, shut up and listen to it. You don't like it, don't turn it on. You think punk is dead, then it is for you. You think punk's alive, then it is for you.

Just because you beleive something doesn't mean the whole world must conform to your values.

Anti-Flag has sucked lately, but is whining about it going to change anything? I think not.

You people need to realize someone can beleive differantley than you. That's how the world works.

i agree. its started underground and stayed that way. theres a bunch of bands that are supposedly punk (green day, simple plan, etc.) but really arent.

i listen to pretty much any rock, but mostly punk and metal. im also in a punk band, but we havnt played long.

i listen to LP, AFI, Misfits, Flogging Molly, The Clash, The Unseen, SOAD, ACDC, The Suicide Machines, The Casualties, Bad Religion, Slipknot, Godsmack, Pennywise, Atreyu, Black Flag, Sex Pistols, Rancid, OP IV, gorilla buscuits, aerosmith, The police, Kansas, and tons of local Wa stuff like charley smells, HIV, and outnumbered (all from my school), Bad Otis, Bristle etc.

Question: couldnt help seeing that some have said AFI - you mean their first 2 (maybe 3..) albums im assuming. they are the only thing that could be considered punk by anyone

AFI is farrrrrrr from punk they are a bunch of Emo babies... Im surprised noone has said that yet. Also all the great punk is underground IMO.

I like so many bands, too many to list. Anti-Flag put out one good record, and that was Underground Network. Most modern bands that people call "punk" suck. Also, not all rap sucks. some modern stuff is good. Listen to Jurrasic 5.

RageAgainstTheToyMachine

The whole reason for punk was to try and bring back rock n roll after it was destroyed by business men and disco. The true meaning of punk died in the late 70's to early 80's. Punk never even had a meaning, it was not even a true genre, it was a term givin to bands trying to bring the agression and rebelion back into rock n roll.

this is why the dead kennedys are awesome, they are smart and aren't a bunch of teenager filled with angst complaining, the dks were more mature

Punk's not dead
It just deserves to die
When it becomes another stale cartoon
A close-minded, self-centered social club
Ideas don't matter, it's who you know
If the music's gotten boring
It's because of the people
Who want everyone to sound the same
Who drive bright people out
Of our so-called scene
'Til all that's left Is just a meaningless fad
Hardcore formulas are dogshit
Change and caring are what's real
Is this a state of mind
Or just another label
The joy and hope of an alternative
Have become its own cliche
A hairstyle's not a lifestyle
Imagine Sid Vicious at 35
Who needs a scene
Scared to love and to feel
Judging everythng
By loud fast rules appeal
Who played last night?
"I don't know, I forgot.
But diving off the stage Was a lot of fun."
[Chorus:]
So eager to please
Peer pressure decrees
So eager to please
Peer pressure decrees

Make the same old mistakes
Again and again,
Chickenshit conformist
Like your parents
What's ripped us apart even more than drugs
Are the thieves and the goddamn liars
Flipping people off when they share their stuff
When someone falls are there any friends?
Harder core than thou for a year or two
Then it's time to get a real job
Others stay home, it's no fun to go out
When the gigs are wrecked by gangs and thugs
When the thugs form bands, look who gets record deals
From New York metal labels looking to scam
Who sign the most racist queerbashing bands they can find
To make a buck revving kids up for war
Walk tall, act small
Only as tough as gang approval
Unity is bullshit
When it's under someone's fat boot
Where's the common cause
Too many factions
Safely sulk in their shells
Agree with us on everything
Or we won't help with anythng
That kind of attitude
Just makes a split grow wider
Guess who's laughing while the world explodes
When we're all crybabies
Who fight best among ouselves

[Chorus]

That farty old rock and roll attitude's back
"It's competition, man, we wanna break big."
Who needs friends when the money's good
That's right, the '70s are back.
Cock-rock metal's like a bad laxative
It just don't move me, ya know?
The music's OK when there's more ideas than solos
Do we rally need the attitude too?
Shedding thin skin too quickly
As a fan it disappoints me
Same old stupid sexist lyrics
Or is Satan all you can think of?
Crossover is just another word
For lack of ideas
Maybe what we need
Are more trolls under the bridge
Will the metalheads finally learn something-
Or will the punks throw away their education?
No one's ever the best
Once they believe their own press
"Maturing" don't mean rehashing
Mistakes of the past

[Chorus]

The more things change
The more they stay the same
We can't grow
When we won't criticize ourselves
The '60s weren't all failure
It's the '70s that stunk
As the clock ticks we dig the same hole
Music scenes ain't real life
They won't get rid of the bomb
Won't eliminate rape
Or bring down the banks
Any kind of real change
Takes more time and work
Than changing channels on a TV set

How could you say that? That was basically one LONG complaint. I have never heard anyone complain and rant musically as they did. Whoes the mature one again? I found it stupid how they try to come off as changing someones mind and changing music, yet they say that music won't change a thing, so what was the point of a long rant? Retards..

He's talking about fashion punks. "Music scenes ain't real life." Kids are so caught up with getting credentials in the punk scene that they forget what it's about. Have you really never heard someone complain as much as they did? They didn't even complain really. DK rules. They were mature but they didn't have bricks up their asses. Jello Biafra is fucking smart too.

this is why the dead kennedys are awesome, they are smart and aren't a bunch of teenager filled with angst complaining, the dks were more mature

Punk's not dead
It just deserves to die
When it becomes another stale cartoon
A close-minded, self-centered social club
Ideas don't matter, it's who you know
If the music's gotten boring
It's because of the people
Who want everyone to sound the same
Who drive bright people out
Of our so-called scene
'Til all that's left Is just a meaningless fad
Hardcore formulas are dogshit
Change and caring are what's real
Is this a state of mind
Or just another label
The joy and hope of an alternative
Have become its own cliche
A hairstyle's not a lifestyle
Imagine Sid Vicious at 35
Who needs a scene
Scared to love and to feel
Judging everythng
By loud fast rules appeal
Who played last night?
"I don't know, I forgot.
But diving off the stage Was a lot of fun."
[Chorus:]
So eager to please
Peer pressure decrees
So eager to please
Peer pressure decrees

Make the same old mistakes
Again and again,
Chickenshit conformist
Like your parents
What's ripped us apart even more than drugs
Are the thieves and the goddamn liars
Flipping people off when they share their stuff
When someone falls are there any friends?
Harder core than thou for a year or two
Then it's time to get a real job
Others stay home, it's no fun to go out
When the gigs are wrecked by gangs and thugs
When the thugs form bands, look who gets record deals
From New York metal labels looking to scam
Who sign the most racist queerbashing bands they can find
To make a buck revving kids up for war
Walk tall, act small
Only as tough as gang approval
Unity is bullshit
When it's under someone's fat boot
Where's the common cause
Too many factions
Safely sulk in their shells
Agree with us on everything
Or we won't help with anythng
That kind of attitude
Just makes a split grow wider
Guess who's laughing while the world explodes
When we're all crybabies
Who fight best among ouselves

[Chorus]

That farty old rock and roll attitude's back
"It's competition, man, we wanna break big."
Who needs friends when the money's good
That's right, the '70s are back.
Cock-rock metal's like a bad laxative
It just don't move me, ya know?
The music's OK when there's more ideas than solos
Do we rally need the attitude too?
Shedding thin skin too quickly
As a fan it disappoints me
Same old stupid sexist lyrics
Or is Satan all you can think of?
Crossover is just another word
For lack of ideas
Maybe what we need
Are more trolls under the bridge
Will the metalheads finally learn something-
Or will the punks throw away their education?
No one's ever the best
Once they believe their own press
"Maturing" don't mean rehashing
Mistakes of the past

[Chorus]

The more things change
The more they stay the same
We can't grow
When we won't criticize ourselves
The '60s weren't all failure
It's the '70s that stunk
As the clock ticks we dig the same hole
Music scenes ain't real life
They won't get rid of the bomb
Won't eliminate rape
Or bring down the banks
Any kind of real change
Takes more time and work
Than changing channels on a TV set

How could you say that? That was basically one LONG complaint. I have never heard anyone complain and rant musically as they did. Whoes the mature one again? I found it stupid how they try to come off as changing someones mind and changing music, yet they say that music won't change a thing, so what was the point of a long rant? Retards..

He's talking about fashion punks. "Music scenes ain't real life." Kids are so caught up with getting credentials in the punk scene that they forget what it's about. Have you really never heard someone complain as much as they did? They didn't even complain really. DK rules. They were mature but they didn't have bricks up their asses. Jello Biafra is f**king smart too.

How can you be in a punk band and be smart and mature? That defeats the purpose..

^^ look at the band Against Me! Amazing band, very liberal, but they don't show it through their music.

How so? Is that supposed to be an insult? Some of the smartest people I've heard of are in punk bands.
