Hey so, I am planning on washing my bearings for the first time.
And my father told me to simply soak in gasoline and lubricate it with grease.
Will this be bad? or will it work fine?

Use Acetone (or Propanone)
Fill a small bottle about half way (or use a bearing cleaning unit if you have one) and put the bearings it and shake it up until the Acetone turns blackish/brown from dirt.
For lubricate, use bearing lube if you have some, I just got bones speed cream and it works great. I wouldnt try grease or anything, that could be hard to get out of the bearings if it doesnt work well

Not too sure?
Hmmm... What's acetone? I heard kerosene works too right? And for lubricant, I think I"m just gonna go to the hardware store and see what I can find.
More answers really help!

Acetone is in nail polish remover, its a solvent, you can probably get it at a Sears or any hardware store

Pretty much.
Acetone was like $5 or $6 for a big can of it, its really good stuff and will get all the crap out of your bearings

Don't use just any old lube. Get some speed cream. Bones knows what they are talking about. Speed Cream is the best because it is designed for skating, believe me man. Something like WD-40 will screw your bearings up. Soak them in something like acetone, and lube them with Speed Cream. Read this web page in its entirety with your dad.

Ok! Got it. But anyone know any lubricants I can find in a hardware store?

none will truly fit your purpose and they most likely leave behind residue and such. Please just buy Speed Cream. It will last a while because you only need two drop per wheel. It is worth the money. As for your cleaner, either get Gumout Carboreutor cleaner or ACetone. Both can be found in a hardware store.

I'm lazy so I just put some rubbing alcohol in the bearing and q-tip it around. Then I put some lube in, and voila, the bearings are slightly faster than they used to be.

Thanks a lot Blacksk8r92. I'll try convince my dad to buy me some acetone/kerosene and some speed cream. Thanks to everyone else too!

its not too expensive man. And will last. You could soak your bearings in rubbing alcohol overnight and then spin the dirt out, but it will lighten the color of thw shields if they are bones reds. But the speed cream is the best lube and that website is very detailed as to what should be done to maintain your bearings. Good Luck.
