Hi everyone, Im a beginner skateboarder and just learning basic stuff rite now. Im not rich, so Im just learning on a pretty cheap skateboard. So cheap its not worth mentioning, unless u really wana know. I paid not alot of money, so if it breaks I wont b too sad. :P I have saved up money for 2boards I wanted to try out. One is a complete and the other is just a deck.
Im asking about "practice" boards and different sized boards u ride, cause since Im just starting out I really dont wanna destroy or snap the complete I paid so much money for, trying out a trick or doing something stupid on it. Also if u do ride different sized boards, is it because u'r more comfortable riding that size? Or is it because you ride skateparks/bowls/vert vs. street/freestyle? I know there are guidelines as to which sizes boards are more suitable to which type of riding u choose. I just skate for fun mostly, and If I can do tricks, then even better.

My cheap board is 8"x31.5" and if u really wana know, it starts with a "M" haha now Im gona get it.

The complete I saved up to buy....

Deck: Enjoi Funstick 7.5
Trucks: Royal Mid Red/Gold
Bearings: Bones Reds or Pleasure Tools abec 5 sealed
Wheels: 51mm Red Enjoi-Merry-Go-Round
Risers: Independent soft
Hardware: Shortys
Griptape: Jessup

I wanted an Enjoi, their decks and wheels have fun graphics and the guy I was talkn to at the skatehop said Enjoi is good. I think this is a good size deck for tricks and stuff. He also suggested Reds bearings for price/perf.

I also bought Pleasure Tools bearings online from eds bearings dot com. I found that site from reading the forums on NCDSA site. Northern California Downhill Skateboarding Association. Theres alot of great info on there. And many there have tried and liked the extremely great price/perf of Pleasure Tools. I have not "setup" the Enjoi yet, so Im still wondering which bearings to put in there. I just dont wana try crazy stuff on the Enjoi and break such an expensive setup. Thats why Im just using the crap board.

The second deck(only) I saved up to buy and sometime setup with parts is a 7.75"x31.5" Scarecrow Evil Crow deck! Im a huge Brandon Lee/The Crow movie fan. And I wanted to try a Scarecrow deck, based on graphics I know. But I think its sweet. Has anyone tried this company? I found an online review of different sized evil crow deck on oldschoolskateboarding dot com. And I really dont wana screw up this deck.

I think the company that makes Scarecrow has a really good site. Theres great stuff on there, like an article about "chinese made skateboards." abc boards I think?

I think this site is awesome too, I joined it! Im learning to skate both skateparks and the street. Thanks to everyone that replies and have fun!

Dude, if your going to practice with one deck then once you get on the other one the feel of it will be different. Like if I learned to tre on a shitty board and go and get on my good board it will be different depending on the concave or whatever but I don't care.
The complete sounds pretty good for a beginners board, and the cheapo one that you bought was a bit of a waste, but you can still learn on it till you are good enough to skate a good board. Then it will be a long time before you get to use your crow deck because beginners don't snap boards much and enjoi wouldn't snap too soon anyway.
Dude you also sound like you care about looks of the boards then how they achually skate......that is not a good thing, like you bought an enjoi deck for the fun graphics and a guy at the skate shop most likely is trying to sell you a deck, not caring whether it is good or not.
And if a brand has a good site it doesn't really matter if their product is good, like I could have the best site ever because my dad could know graphic design and online multimedia and HTML pro, well I could be selling shitty wheels and decks on that site also, but then you would go and buy some shitty wheels and decks from that site because the site is cool and the board graphics are cool, thats what I got out of what you said.

Hope I helped you...........don't give up!

Thanks the Drizzle and sk8r goth50 for the replies. I guess Ill try the Pleasure Tools bearings in there when I put my deck together. Its kinda funny that I paid less money for 2sets of PT abec5 bearings US converted to Canadian money, than for 1set of Bones Reds Canadian! Thanks for your input.

I can see your point about websites vs. products. But I guess all u can do is try someones product for yourself. I kinda think that the money I spend on a deck, will go into a cool/personal graphic I choose to like. Even tho it has no effect on how the deck skates. The feel/concave is really up to me to like or not like. But it kinda sux that if u dont like the deck/concave/feel of a deck u buy, u cant really return the product. As opposed to other things u buy in life. But thats whats cool about skating, u can express yourself thru which board u ride, and the graphics, or no graphics....etc. Everyone has diff tastes, we'd all b riding solid colored decks and wheels if we all were not diff. and nothing wrong with that. I guess I appreciate the "artistry" in skateboarding. art of skateboarding site and the book disposable are cool things. Thanks for your input, Ill have to get used to my new deck as I progress.

Well, you kinda sounded like you seem to think that if you snap the deck, you cant use the trucks, wheels and bearings anymore either. Thats not true. But anyways, don't worry about snapping decks if youre just a beginner, ive been skating for 2 years and ive never snapped a deck. It really takes alot to break one, especially enjoi, there extra durable with the resin stuff. I'd use the Bones Reds. I have some now and i love em. You just gota clean them alot cause they collect dirt fast.
Never heard of Scarecrow, but it's probably a pretty good deck, ive found its hard to find a deck that just plain sucks, at least i never have. I personally wouldnt use a practice deck, cause then when i got on my other board, i'd feel weird. Just don't worry too much about snapping a deck, and keep skatin.:D
