So you want to learn a varial kickflip? But you might ask, “BobbyGanoosh! What is a varial kickflip?” Well, here’s the answer: A varial kickflip is a pop shove-it and a kickflip combined! Simple, huh?
There are a few tricks you should know before you try this trick:
* Pop Shove-it
* Kickflip
* And maybe even 360 shove-it, just so your used to the board spinning, but this is definitely not necessary
Now, the foot placement:
Front Foot: You should set up your front, flicking foot, like a kickflip, however you would do that. But, it should be angled a little bit more than a kickflip, maybe a 40 degree angle. This will allow you to not have to flick as much.
Back Foot: You should set up you back, popping foot, just like a pop shove it, however you would do that. There is nothing else to the back foot; it just pops your board normally.
Now, the motion:
Just like a pop shove-it, you will pop with your back foot. The board will start spinning a pop shove-it.
IMPORTANT
Once the board has spun 45 degrees(half of a pop shove-it), you need to flick straight out, not like a kickflip, where you flick to the left, here you only need to flick straight out. This is because the board is already turned 45, and if you flick to the side, you won’t be flicking at the concave, causing no flip to ensue.

After you have fliped and spun the board, you need to jump. This jump is more like a pop shove-it than a kickflip. Unless you have a huge scoop(which is not needed for this trick), you will need to jump out to stay over the board. You may find that your back foot does not stay over the board. If that happens you need to jump higher, or just commit to the trick.
Catching the Trick:
Once you have flipped, spun, and jumped, you will need to catch the board. It’s quite simple. Again, it’s just like a pop shove-it. You will the board come around, and you will aim for the bolts and land!
After following these steps, you’ve landed a varial kickflip!
Common Problems
*Problem: My board does not flip all the way!
Answer: You’re not kicking straight out, you have to flick at the concave for the board to spin.
*Problem: My board does not spin a full pop shove-it!
Answer: Try setting the balls of your toes at the edge of the board
*Problem: I can’t get my back foot on the board
Answer: You’re either not committing, or you need to jump out with the board.
*Problem: I can’t get my front foot on the board
Answer: You’re either not committing, or you need to jump out with the board.
Remember to think of it as a pop shove-it with flip!
