To start skating you need a board.(duh)Here is a part of the guide to buy boards.
Don't buy boards from Wal-Mart,K-mart,or any other places that you can think of.Unless the board has been tested by a friend.
Do buy from skate shops where the clerks have more knowledge about skating.
This is the part of the guide that will help you what you choose to have on your skateboard.
Your deck should be chosen by you but griptape is an important part.Jessup,Zero, and Flip are good griptape brands but if a friend knows more good griptape brands see what he thinks. But if he tells you to take Element griptape,DO NOT take his word!Element is the crappiest griptape you can find.
Now to start on wheels and trucks.
Trucks should be no wider than the deck. This is ones aide in flipping the board.
Now wheels, small wheels are for street skating in most cases. It can also help in flipping and spinning.Big wheels are for vert and pipe moves,or just for more speed.
And wheel hardness is another thing.Soft wheels can mostly be for vert or just for a ride.Hard wheels will get more speed and mostly for street skating.
Alright now that you have your board I'll explain the basic and most important trick in the history of skating.
The ollie is the start of tricks to learn.
1.Foot Placement:Put your front foot in the middle or maybe a little more back.Your back foot with your pinkie toe not off the board but just on the edge.(In the middle of the kicktail.)
2.Getting it:Pop the board with your back foot and drag your front foot close to the top.
3.Landing:Level out the board and when your board hits the ground bend your knees to help stay on the board.
Have fun skating and if you want to learn new tricks look in the trick tips section of this website.
