View Full Version : making tricks look cooler

Ok so you want to make a certain trick look really cool. Here are some steps on how to add style/coolness haha to your tricks. Hopefully it helps out a little well here it is.
First Step have the trick or tricks down good before adding style to it/them.
Ok here are the things..
Get Speed- This is a key factor, adding speed to a trick will really boost the coolness of the trick.
Ride Away Clean-By riding away clean i mean on the bolts, get a good amount of speed do your trick and land on the bolts and ride away fast. That really makes the trick look insane.
Get Height- Get some good height on the trick, pop harder if it helps, popping harder = more height.
Catch the trick- Catch the trick in the air about 1 or 2 decks or more higher.
Make the trick look easy Land that trick so clean and perfect, and dont even do any facial expression such as YEAH!:-L or wooo8-D just ride away like meh :-W make it look like you really dont care and try to make it look really simple. So when someone trys to do the trick they will be like how the fuck did you land it! you made it look so easy.
Suck Legs Up Sucking your legs up to your chest or having them really high makes the trick look harder and cooler.
Do the trick off of something This could really boost the coolness/style of the trick, if you do it off of something and catch it at a really high place and land on the bolts and ride away clean/smooth it will be sick!
Some No No's
1. No tic tacs!
2. Dont land sketchy
3. Dont go slow
4. Dont show off after you landed it. That just makes you look cocky.
5. Dont be pissed if you cant land it, just keep trying.
Main Rules to this
1. Practice hard, dont give up.
2. Have fun doing it
3. Hopefully this was helpful.
Peace  8-)

It's like after you land you kind of turn your board like pop it and turning it, it makes the trick look horrible, if you land it and just stay rolling clean it will look cooler.

I tic tac alot mostly when i land tricks and dont have any balance

Very good, another thing, after you roll away, don't stay bent from impact, non-chalantly ease your way back up.
oh, and, what trick do you think would look the coolest when you follow these rules.

any trick can look cool, as long as you give it your best and practice every day, you can even make a simple ollie look really cool
I also dont agree with that guide, come on, you just do the trick the way you want, and if you skate for the right reasons, you wont have to make your trick look "cool", you just skate for the fun of it, for the feeling of being free and able to do things that other people cant, its just a way of life thats so much better than everything else, just enjoy, and go out and skate

I never said that you had to do them "cooler", I was just wondering, for video purposes. You have to admit, I bet you would rather watch a skate vid with everything clean, than the same skate vid with sketch. However, I agree with your point of view on skating, and I would plus rep you on that if I could.

i agree with trey to stardom,
skateboarding is about fun.
it gives me the shits so much when people diss other peoples styles or how they skate. there sk8ing for them selfs not you, wtf should you cause if it looks good or not. if there trying to show off then it will care. but most the time there skateing cause its fun. if they havnt learnt to pop the trick super high or go super fast who the fuck cares.

star skater that was a really good guide and i saw what tre flip to stardom said and it makes me want to switch flip all over his face...yes i would rather watch clean tricks rather than sketchy tricks anyday...
...but sometimes i like watching sketchy tricks off stairs because of the horrible style...(idk i like that horrible style feeling...its like "OMG he landed that trick OMG just wait wait wait!!!OMG he landed it again")
but it was an excellent guide btw
yes it will make alot of ppls tricks look alot better and cleaner so thnx for the tips

04-03-2007, 10:16 AM
great guide... i really need to practice on those types of things... and for the guy above me 1. there are about a million kickflip guides and 2. you need to keep your wieght straight when you bend and in the air look at the bolts...flick with your foot dont kick it so it will stay closer to you

Hahah, I just think that one is funny because when ever you used to land a trick, you'd do a fist pump.

i think the most useful tips are ride away clean and fast. it helps doing the trick off somethinng though.

06-12-2007, 09:41 AM
I agree with the fact that skateboarding isnt all about making the trick look cool. But its always nice to try and up your own style, for personal sake rather than others watching you.
Some of that list is pretty solid, but things like speed, reaction afterwards and doing it off something are all very subjective. Not complusory at all.
Sometimes I think that the industry is trying to go bigger and better in the wrong ways. I think nothing feels better than solid flat ground or a simple mini ramp sesh to get your self pumping rather than a 10 set.
However wrong place for that kind of rant :).
Nice list.
