I need some help on ollieing. Whenever I try to ollie, the tail doesn't even go 1 inch off the ground. Would it probably be because I have a crappy Wal-Mart skateboard...or because I'm doing it on the grass...or both. I land a good ollie about 1 time out of 20. Please help!

no trust me its not the wal mart board. although thier not as good, i practised on a walmart board so its fine, and grass is a good idea to get the motion, when you feel comfortable, take it to concrete, you'll know when your ready. anyways what your have to do is pop really hard, the biggest problem with most olliers is that the leave thier back foot on the tail when they pop the board. what you need to do is pop really hard and before the tail hits the ground, your back foot is already in the air, THIS IS A MUST!, or you'll always be down the drain. crouch low so you feel a tensity in your knees. and pop really hard. the reason why they you need to pop really hard is so the board can go at a slighter angle. why does it matter you ask? thats so your drag with your front foot will be at a slighter angle, so that way your basiccly dragging 90 degrees into the air = big hangtime. the slighter the drag. the higher you will tuck up. and the higher you tuck up, the higher the ollie. back foot and front foot should be basiclly covering the board. make sure your balenced or else your pop will be off, and ruining the whole ollie. whew! long type, well gl with it and happy skating!

get a new board if you can get the money, but dont expect to be any better, board choices dont even matter when your learing ollies

Choizy is right, your learning to ollie.. Board type doesn't particuarly matter yet. Don't go entirely with your parents who are proably going to tell you they are all the exact same thing... But if you can't ollie yet, wait until you can atleast ollie lines and such before starting to care.
