I have read guide after guide on effective ways to get sponsored and they all miss the whole point of sponsorship: to promote a product. A company/shop is only going to sponsor you if you can convince others to buy that product. Sure you might not be the best skater in the world, but if you can convince others to buy the said product through your skating then that is the only qualification you need.
Short but sweet, encompassing the key point of sponsorship that everybody seems to be forgetting about.

Good thread to start up. I agree on this subject because if you look at it in a way that they only sponsor great skateboarders then that makes kids think, "WOW! Look at how good he/she is! If they ride for (put company here or shop here) then that company must be cool!" Or they'll think that it's that product they skate for that makes them so good and that's why kids go for that kind of stuff. Because if you were a kid that started skating a few years ago, then your first board was most likely a Tony Hawk board or your favorite rider from Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.
Promoting a product really is the main key to getting hooked up.

That's a great point. I see people pushing stuff all the time. Also if your starting a company get stickers....GET STICKERS hand them out to everyone with your website or whatever.
