Now a lot of people have heard or used a santa cruz. They are one of the oldest names in the buisness of skateboarding. They live up to their name buy making (in my opinion) one of the best board ever. The are a part of the nhs distrabution witch also is a part of creature. ricta, krux, independent, and some other companies. The review i am making is on the powerlyte.
Construction: the santa cruz board company has 4 versions of boards.
Power Ply- 7-ply maple construction; the most recognized name in deck construction.
I have had 2 Powerlytes, A Lee Smith pro and a Emanuel Guzman pro modle.
The Powerlyte has 8 plys with a fiberglass on the top witch increases strength.
PowerLyte's super thin, 8-ply maple veneers and bullet-proof top layer yield the strongest, lightest skateboard decks available. Constructed 90% of wood, it's the other 10% that makes PowerLyte decks incredibly strong and 22% lighter. Compared to conventional wood decks, PowerLytes flip quicker and are 150% stronger.
The other 2 versions were an old school power ply and an old school powerlyte.
Pop- Ok when fist describing pop. At first, all boards have the same pop and its all in you legs but, when asking about pop you are usualy meaning " How long dose the tail last?". Well first off, my Lee Smith was the one i had the longest. The tail wears down slow. I went through the 6th out of an 8 ply board. When stomping on the tail for the pop, its feel nice and crisp.
Concave- The conave on both boards were amazing. They flip nice and smooth. But different people have different likes on cancave. But still i recomend these boards to everyone. The closeist i can think of its in between a habitat and a zoo york. Also it veries between pro decks.
Chipping- What makes the boards fantastic is that they rarely chip. Out of the whole boards life i have only had one chip bit it was very very tinny chip.
So again if you like boards that dont chip much this is one you would like.
Strength- These were one of the strongest boards i have ever owned. It lasted me about 2 months and thats a long time for me. The 8 ply is great and the fiber glass is a lot of help too. This board would have lasted me longer but i was doing a gap and i stomped on the middel and half of the bottom board on the bottom plys chiped. Then later i went to another gap and i stomped on it and that finaly killed it. Its still skatable it u used a pice of wood and wood glued it to the board then ducked tape it. But i wont lol.
Sliding- The paint on these boards are smooth but it comes off a little easy but still after that it still slides smooth.
Shape- The shape veries between pro decks and peolple. If you still not shure but you are curious. Go to you local shop and if they are in stock ask for them and stand on it. If you like it you wont be disapointed.
I would rate these boards an 9.5/10 because as i stated above. The tail lasts a long time, their very strong, the concave was amazing, but the bad part was that the paint came off a little easy, but it was ok.
