So for my birthday, i am going to pick out a camera. i was wondering what is the best for around $400.

also, on my last camera, there was a delay when you snapped a shot. which was really annoying. do any of these have a delay?

nope these are slr's (single lense reflex) cameras and as soon as you press the button it takes the picture. just lurk around that website it helped me ALOT to learn alot of basics too.

Not worth it. Save a bit more and get a D50 and kit lens, you'll be more than satisfied, and then you'll be able to use it later on, too, with more lenses when you get better.

I agree

If you don't want to do that, you could get a 35mm SLR that would be cheeper but you have to buy film and get it deveolped and buy a scanner if you want to put it on your computer. Some say film is best to learn on but I perfer digital all the way.

get 35mm better image quality for your money. get a canon ae-1 off ebay for like $100 and then buy a scanner with the money you have left over.
