at least you distinguished it from real hardcore

of the genre you speak of, I find two bands to be respectable : race well run and planesmistakenforstars.

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.
Their songs aren't 100% screamo, but it's nice emo/punk with some scremo.

the mars volta (havent heard)

You havn't heard of The Mars Volta? :-!? They're legendary!

I've really got to say, you are not talking about hardcore here ok, this is all about post hardcore, screEMO, etc...
Real hardcore's stuff like Agnostic Front, Suicide Machines, etc...

As for the sort of stuff you're after, i'd like to foward a couple of local bands that might tickle your fancy...

The Mid Carson Coalition - Local Post Hardcore Band (http://www.myspace.com/themidcarsoncoalition)
MyLastVictory - Local Metalcore Band (http://www.myspace.com/mylastvictory)

And also some bands i've found and like on PureVolume...

Clearview Kills - Nothing special, just a typical screamo band with a hint of punk (http://www.purevolume.com/clearviewkills)
Flee The Seen - Catchy tTunes and great dual male/female vocals (http://www.purevolume.com/fleetheseen)
A Billion Ernies - ScreEMO, but mixed with Ska, offically amazing! (http://www.purevolume.com/abillionernies)

Other than those i would suggest the following bands...

Axis Of Evil
Billy Tallent
Brand New
Caliban
Finch
Funeral For A Friend
Getawayplan
In Flames
InMe
Jack off Jill
Killswitch
Kataklysm
Lost Prophets
Mr. Bungle
PM Today
Poison The Well
Rites of Spring
Senses Fail
SKITH
The Flaming Tsunamis
The Smashup
Trivium
yourcodenameis: milo (i hate them so badly, but you might be into them)

Quite alot of that list is still that doesn't perfectly fit what you're after, such as Katakylsm who're pretty heavy metal, and Mr.Bungle, who're pretty progressive.
But i think you'd enjoy all of those bands... i guess i'm really just trying to broaden your tastes to stuff outside of conventional post hardcore.
That's why i've enboldened Sikth, you should definatly check them out, they're amazing.

Do yourself a favor and get "The Trees Are Dead & Dried Out".

It was the first album i ever listened to while driving, people started getting alittle worried about my driving ability when i started doing the double pedal :D

Seriously though, its a genius album, where else will you hear the lyric "Suck Me... OFF in the toilet..."? GENIUS!
