Seven Nation Army and Smoke on the Water are both good if you just started. Also Brain Stew by Green Day is good just to see how fast you can play it. (It's a slow riff)

edit: Iron Man of course.

Boris the Spider by The Who (I think it was The Who)

That's easy but fun as hell to play.

The first song I learned was "Polly" by Nirvana, super easy, try the live version from "On the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah." Then move on to something like "The Passenger" by Iggy Pop. One essential is "Money" by Pink Floyd. My suggestion would be to go to MXTabs.com and just pick out some songs by your favorite bands. If you are really into bass you should listen to some Les Claypool, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and anything Matt Freeman (ie Operation Ivy and Rancid) Good luck!

Oh ***** I was even on there several days ago. Well, I have a shitload of tabs that I have re-written and transcribed if anyone wants some. A lot of Modest Mouse, Rancid, Leftover Crack, hell, I got some shit lying around. Man, now I'm pissed, why do all these assholes get rid of everything on the internet just because they see the opportuniy to make more money off of it, cocksuckers.

Both good sites, Bassmasta's tabs and Active Bass has lots of lessons.

911tabs is probably the best resource for drum guitar or bass tabs cuz it is a collection from many sites.
