Reputation Back On

[Tom-E]

vReputation feature has been turned on, and RESET with new settings.

First off, there is a new usergroup called "Respected Users".

Once your account has been active for 6 months and you have been using it constantly you will automatically enter this usergroup.
Once you are part of this usergroup, you can LEAVE +/- reputation to anyway, 3 times a day, down from 5.

This, not only prevents Reputation Spam, but discourages Multiple Accounts per person.

I also decreased Admin Power to 25, down from 50.


If you are a "Registered User" and not a "Respected User", you can only receive reputation, not give it. This is the main update in our new settings. This creates an "Upper Class" of skateboard-city members, who should be looked up to, and will likely/hopefully decreasing "Reputation Tennis".
Also, since you can only give reputation 3x a day, down from 5 like mentioned above,
You will have to wait 9 days before you can give reputation back to the same person again, assuming you maxed out on your reputation everday..

A lot of these morons that abused the rep system before are going to eventually get this status, and when that time time comes, they're still going to be morons that abuse the rep system. In addition, there are a number of people that just joined that are able to make a significant post, are able to give significant rep, and are able to have a progressive role in the forum. They aren't able to give good rep, but a person that's been her for six months and is a complete dip is.

Time just isn't the best method of qualification here.


EDIT: I just noticed that some people have been here long enough and don't have the member status (i.e. me). I personally don't care since I don't give rep, but others in the same situation may.

I think that for the reputation, if a person posts a thread that either has a certain amount of of replies, or views, or becomes a 'hot thread' (when the book turns red) then their rep should go up. Or if a mod thinks that they have posted a significant thread then their rep goes up, so only mods could give rep not others.

There will always be people who abuse the system. You can't help it, but certainly the new rules with discourage it and keep it at bay. Mods are busy enough with idiotic users making threads about getting sponsored, cut them some slack. The new way of things sounds good to me. Although I think that the ability to give rep is a priviledge and should be able to be taken away at anytime of abuse. Just an idea.
