Yea, The Clash is awesome, but I listen to a lot of Joe Strummer's solo folk-rock stuff more.

the clash are amazing. they were the band that took punk rock to another level by adding in rockabilly, ska, regae and folk influences. they were more skilled instrumentally than most punk bands at the time and their music is timeless

They're good, but I'm so sick of hearing people say they revolutionized punk. Sure, they started out in the begining, but they really didn't contribute much. There were dozens of other bands that contributed politically contributed more, and stuck true to their roots till the end. Don't get me wrong, I love the band, but completely abandoning the scene and signing to a major label isn't revolutionizing a genre. It's selling out. Greenday did the exact same thing that The Clash did, and I don't see any of you saying Greenday revolutionized punk. Let me end my mini-rant with a quote from crass

"CBS promotes the clash, but it ain't for revolution, it's just for cash"

That sums my views up pretty well.

now exactly how did they sell out when they only had 1 single that got any airtime in the united states and it was limited at that (rock the casbah)
