Ok I'm just interested to know who here listens to bands with hard to find albums, the sort of bands you don't see in your everyday CD stores?

This pretty much excludes every single pop, punk and rap group since they're all money-whores and they do it for the fame. Yes, they all do and no, you can't prove me wrong.

I'm talking about artists who write MUSIC, who apply their talents and love for playing into their song-writing.

Here's my list:

Planet X
Dream Theater
Symphony X
Pain of Salvation
On the Virg
Dave Weckl Band
Karizma
David Jones Trio

Anti-Hero

Well that explains why I never heard of TMV until early this year ;). I actually don't mind them, they're pretty cool. It's good to see a fairly well-known band doing something very different.

I think I've heard of Cog as well.

Spanky-Dan - you've heard Never Pay Retail? I saw them several years ago live, didn't realise they were still around!

The Rentals
Quadrajets

By the board's standards, I listen to bands that just about everyone has heard of. But I'd be suprised if a single person at my school had ever heard of Dragonforce or Children of Bodom. Cannibal Corpse is a big maybe, but I doubt anyone at my school actually listens to them either. And I also think that I'm one of about a dozen people in my city to know Morbid Angel or Sodom.

What kind of shitty ass town do you live in?! Those are some of the most known/respected bands in metal.

Right now I'm just getting into Jack Slater, a German Technical/Brutal Death Metal band. They're riffs and guitar solos kick some serious **** reminds me a bit of Necrophagist, except not as much wankery, and the vocals are more varied. I don't know that anybody has even heard of this band here, even in the metal community I haven't heard this band come up.

Other techy death bands I like:
Beneath The Massacre
Capharnaum
Gorod
Illogicist
Merlin
Pavor
Psychotogen
Quo Vadis
SLEEP TERROR (http://www.filefactory.com/get/f.php?f=39d09bed81c7477eac026102) (check um out, instrumental madness with other genre influences)
Sceptic
Spawn of Possession
Theory In Practice

And um, some underground, outstanding Black Metal acts are:
Absu
Bannerwar
Corpus Christii
Infernal War
ManeThereN
Old Wainds
Satanic Warmaster

There is hardly any Thrash these days which is sad since that's like my favorite genre. But I have discovered a band called Flesh Made Sin which are from Holland of all places. Reminds me a lot of early Kreator.

I also appreciate a lot of regular Heavy Metal, unfortanetly they're hard to come by these days with extreme Metal being the most prevelant. But a Power Metal band that I really enjoy is Hibria.

Beside Metal which has been my favorite genre for over five years now, the only bands I listen to that are outside the genre are called Umphrey's McGee and Particle. Both very good Jam bands.

Yeah, I am from Australia I live in Bowral. South of Sydney where Bradman came from. Ahhh I was heaps annoyed because Gyro were touring over here a few weeks ago and all their shows except for one were 18+, and the one which I could get into was on a Thursday night and my parents wouldn't let me go because I had school the next day!

Where's the justice!!!!

Oh yeah, it sucks that you just missed out on Cog because they are awesome.

I've seen Dream Theater in a few stores, but Symphony X are hardly known at all in Australia and I've only found them in stores which actually specialise in getting in lesser known labels (eg. InsideOut).

A lot of people have heard of both, but Symphony X isn't as popular for some reason. If you like these two bands, you should probably check out Shadow Gallery. They play in the Progressive-Power Metal style like Symphony X but are less epic-sounding and more progressive

I'm listening to a couple of clips from their website, they sound a bit like Spock's Beard, except better :D. I'm not a big fan of SB, I just can't appreciate Neal Morse's singing, it annoys me. They write cool music though.

see, i dont like them that much, Yeah the singers sick, but i dontlike him in the whole acoustic deal, hes way better in his main crew, alexisonfire. One of the best post-hardcore bands around right now.

MY lesser-known list:
A thorn for every heart
a wilhelm scream
adair
The blood brothers
british sea power
Cursive
Day of contempt
The dillinger escape plan
The dismemberment plan
Emery
The Faint (best electronica ever)
Greely estates
Hidden in plain view
Hot water music
Mindless self indulgence
Reggie and the Full Effect
Saosin
Scary Kids Scaring Kids
Skindred (reggae-metal, and it works:weird: )
The Skyline Obscura (local band, way awesome)
Unearth
Valencia
With Broken Wings
Yesterdays Rising

I mean i dunno, some more known than others, like a couple sell shirts at hot topic, several of them in the whole warped tour thing so whatever. All pretty good bands tho, mostly post-hardcore/screamo bands.

those are 2 big named bands, if you like Death Metal then youve heard of them! Cannibal Corpse is one of the most important death metal bands to ever play! If there was a Death Metal hall of fame, theyd be in the top 3 to be named.

The only band I can put is Samael (listen to them, you might like them)
