long live megaupload happy hour and being able to search for .zip folders of albums straight off of google, what a glorious era in the history of the internet. how have you guys been coping with these dark ages? i've been listening to radio a lot. not like, the radio, but you know what i mean.

If megaupload was your only source for piracy then you are doing it wrong, that's like saying piracy died with napster.

Demonoid is shut down, they have the domain rights still but are unsure of where the future is heading for the website itself ever since pipa/sopa.

I do. + You can't find a lot of the really good ones online (in good quality anyways)

Ya, it's been down for a while, but I swear every now and then it will come back for a week or two, then get smacked down again. KAT is another good one.

thepiratebay always comes through

blogspots still have good mediafire links

what.cd is what I normally use though when I can't find someone listed on other sites

but I do remember how the internet used to be >.<

megaupload was convenient though, 90% of my music collection was from MU. my father does it like a boss though, spent a few bucks on a program that records any sound the computer makes, so he mutes everything except the music. grooveshark works wonders with it, he just leaves the computer on for a day or two and he comes back with a couple of gig of music, all labeled and whatnot with all ads seperated.

The Pirate Bay is the best thing ever created.

So many websites out there.

http://newalbumreleases.net
http://exystence.net
http://mp3boo.com

to name a few.
Also googling [artist + album 320] always seem to work fine. People are more cautious with making sure their links stay up when they go to the trouble of encoding an album at 320kbps.

Pirate bay kinda sucks, I mean you'll always be able to find bigger releases in 320 with hundreds of seeds but finding lesser known stuff is like unheard of, I don't even usually try pirate bay cause it's a waste of time. They're good for flac though, if I can't find a 320 or vbr 0 link i'll try and find a flac and just re-encode it myself

Searching in filestube is what I always try first and it rarely fails, and they always have it in 320 or vbr 0

If I can't find it there i'll try just googling it or googling artist/album + blogspot but those are almost always taken down

I miss mediafire. Zip files are much more convenient than RAR.

To all you whatcd users what's your method for maintaining a solid ratio

I just signed up and haven't hadda chance to read thru the rules

I don't get what the big deal is. Why don't people like rars?

I bet most people don't know how to open them. I have WinRAR and even though it tells me every time I open the program that it's not freeware and I need to pay for it, it still lets me unzip .rar files...

I'm still working on it, but what I tend to do is go to their list of top downloaded torrents and download them just to seed them. There's a Top 10 link on the top nav bar.

I'm at .19 right now, need to bring it up before I start to get hit with required ratios.

everyone should just get 7zip. It's free and opens like any sort of compressed file you can throw at it

I'll keep that in mind if they ever fix WinRAR and make it so that I have to pay for it instead of telling me to pay for it but still letting me use it.

I can back 7zip, I've used it for a while now and it works well.

Been buying a bunch of old vinyl lately. Haven't been listening to new music (2012) lately though..I haven't dug anything new in months. Pretty much everything I mediafired was pitchfork/blog shit and I don't really miss it, most of it was forgettable.

I realize I could torrent stuff, but that seems like too much work for something I'd listen to three times at most.

so for now I largely buy music I'm interested in, and enjoy spinning it without distractions.

I buy physical CD's/burn them to my computer. I can't in good conscious steal from musicians considering I am one. But that's just me.
