i read somewhere that if you take really good care of it and keep the water temp right it wont metamorphasize into that thing, which im hoping is true, as I plan to get one of these when im older, and have one til it dies.

How fast do they mature?
Don't know, but they can live up to 15 years if taken very good care of.

Also interesting fact, if one of its body parts get bitten off IT FUCKING REGROWS.
