Not the WD-40 but I don't know what the Zep will do. Try some laquer thinner or brake parts cleaner.

HAHA! WD-40 or Zep? WD-40 should never be used on a skateboard, and I'm pretty sure Zep is some kind of household cleaner, and won't work. Use solvents. Kerosene or mineral spirits works well. Then use isopropyl alcohol to get rid of the residue that is left behind from solvents.

Edit: I did a quick search for the Zep degreasor, and it has detergents which is not good for bearings.

Isopropyl alcohol. It's the same thing as rubbing alcohol. You probably have it laying around your house already. Use it as a final rinse to get rid of the residue from the solvents.

Ok thanks but can you explain how to actually clean bearings like do you just take em out of the wheel and then soak them in your cleaner, or do you have to pop the shields off if so what are then shields and when you lube them do you have to take the bearing apart or just take em outta the wheel soak them in whatever then use speed cream the outside or do you half to like take the bearing apart?

Take the sheilds off. Take a pin, and push it in between the ball cage from the side without a seal. Carefully push it out, making sure not to bend it.

Soak the bearings in kerosene for 5-10 minutes without the sheild (do ot soak the sheilds). Try to get a strainer that you can use for this. Take out the bearings and put one bearing in the strainer. Dunk it in the kerosene and shake it around in it to agitate the dirt and stuff out of the bearings. Then skim the bearing at the top to let the stuff fall to the bottom. Do that with all the bearings.

Dump the kerosene, and put in new kerosene. Soak the bearings for 5-10 minutes, and repeat what you did with the strainer.

Dump the kerosene, and clean out the thing you had the kerosene in. I just put a bit of isopropyl in, and wipe it dry.

Then put isopropyl alcohol in, and rinse the bearings by using the strainer again. You don't need to let it soak.

Dry the bearings with a blow dryer, or an air compressor at 60 p.s.i. Put two drops of lube in each and spin the bearing to work it in.

To clean the sheilds, just wipe with with a bit of isopropyl alcohol.

The sheild is the metal or rubber thing that blocks out dirt. The ball cage is the thing that separates the balls in the bearing.
