i've been recording some of my music in my spare time, and i figured i'd upload something just to get some feedback. "i don't want" isn't serious/isn't finished/was just me fucking around. hawk and the rabbit is going on the album, though it may or may not need a little polishing. i've got another 10 or 12 tracks i'm going to record/am in the process of recording. i'll put some more stuff on there sometime soon.

vocals are good in Hawk and the Rabbit, but too quiet at some points

I Don't Want is good, i like the vibe it has

What are you recording with?

yeah i was just thinking that. i need to do a little mixing. thanks. i don't think i'll ever get used to the recorded sound of my voice. it trips me out.

and i'm recording with a blue (brand) mic and audacity. haha.

you could have quite the indie career with your voice i think haha

i'm using the shitty drum beats on my synth until i get ahold of a drum kit to record on. i sold mine a while ago :/

what makes you say that?

idk, it just has that....quality i guess. and i dont even use drums in any of the music i make, my processor has a built in drum machine, but thats pretty limited and repetitive, and i dont want to use my keyboard to make drum beats

case in point, made this yesterday
YouTube - Some Unturned Stones (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMfRTRE9-dc)

only percussion is the backwards cymbals

i put another up. it's an instrumental so far (but only because i'm sick and can't really record the vocals). the lyrics:

i had some dreams when i was a kid
where my whole family died
and i cried, and i comforted my mother 'til my world fell apart

or when i was ashamed of everything i was
all the imperfections in my face, and my voice
but now i find that it really doesn't matter
'cause i really don't choice

oh, all the lengths to change i took
but then so surprised to find out that the girlies like the way i look

when i got older, i'd sit and think for hours
thought i could move boulders with my mind
but now i find
that it doesn't really matter what i think

in the middle, where you play each note a couple times in the synth melody, you might be better off just playing them once each. less is more mindset

edit: thanks, im always unsure about the lead guitar in my music though. in stuff like this, i just get a little lick i can go back to if need be, and just improv otherwise

I don't think I'll ever really be comfortable in my voice either. It's just one of those things, uncanny valley probably. It's close to what you hear in your head, but not quite. It's just sort of off putting

Your voice sounds good. It's really reminding me of Alden Penner
wtf...when I record my voice it sounds nothing like in my head lol.

I actually really liked your stuff. I was pleasantly surprised. Good stuff, keep it up.

ive read that you hear it differently because in your head it travels through the bone structure and sinuses, but to other people (and obviously for recording) it only travels through air. sounds right to me.

Waltz. It starts around 1:09

you're either talking about me whistling, put through a wah filter, or a harmonica. i have a feeling it's the whistle. i just realized it would probably sound better if i redid it without a wah, or cut it altogether. that song is a rough rough rough draft.

since were on the topic of making music, my friend makes a lot of songs that are really good in my opinion

example (of the two he has on youtube):

YouTube - Sean Russell - Jungle Creatures (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPFo4tLWo_o&feature=channel_video_title)

they were a big influence on his stuff, boards of canada to an extent too i think. ill be sure to share the stuff he posts on youtube, he's made two albums thus far and ill see if he minds me sharing em around on here. He used to be a member so he probably wont care but idk figure ill ask to be sure.

also, i deem this thread awesome.

ive posted both of these before im pretty sure, but its becoming the point of this thread to share our music so heres some stuff i recorded a month or two ago:
YouTube - Headache (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqRF4n-UUxo)
YouTube - Moving Forward (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hp_VXi9vVgw)

i made this this morning. haha. i heard it on the radio and i thought it would be cool to do a cover. very unpolished, but i didn't take it too seriously. but i had fun doing it, and that was my intent.

EDIT: to skateselect... the second one is real quiet for some reason, but "headache" is sweet. i really get the vibe of a headache/head trip/disorientation/despair.

this is just a little fragment that i recorded a while ago. i want opinions on it, cause i'm kind of debating whether or not to pursue it. it's hard to gauge whether or not something sounds good since i'm working alone. i dont know if its worth my time to re-record and follow through. because it's such terrible quality as-is.

i like it, id keep working on it. The rhythm part is really enjoyable and relaxing to listen to.

thanks dude. i'm not really sure if i should fuck with re-recording it though, since i'm not sure if i remember it. maybe i'll just build on the existing thing and keep it sorta lo-fi or something
