Okay, since there seems to be alot of guitar, bass and drum players around here I think that it would be pretty cool to have a competiton. Lets say we split it up into beginer, intermediate, and adavanced. Each one of us will record ourselves playing our best songs. We would need judges that know about the instrument that they are judging. Suggestions and feedback. Also if this gets some support could some of you help me put this together?

Thanks, Dave

Awesome Idea! I would but I don't have anything to record to... I play guitar. But if you want I can judge guitar, I know a fair bit about it.

I can probably enter but Ill have to find a way to record some stuff or use older recorded stuff. Or I can judge.

its a good idea but it will never work, realistically, first of all, lots of people dont have cameras or recording software, like myself, but i could judge. also, you would probably have to judge on how well the song was played, rather than how good the song actually is

It can work if we all maintain a positive attitude. Alot of people on here actually have cameras, and if you dont you can just use you mic to record. A good free easy to use software program is Audacity. Yes thats why i want people who know about music to judge so they can tell if the person executed proper technique.

Okay so let me know what if you want to compete and tell me what skill level and instrument you play. And for the judges you must have music experience, tell me what catagory you want to judge.

yeah i guess it sounds ok, i hope mics are cheap because im not blowing a whole lot on one, but ill check tomorrow for a computer mic, or i can judge, somewhere on my computer i have an old jam just me and a drummer but if i remember i had a broken finger then, ill try and find it, maybe my drummer has it

Good question. Ill have to find out the contenders types of music and try to find something to fit. Or, we could designate a song and give everyone a week or two to learn it.

spanky_dan
01-16-2006, 07:00 PM
i think for advanced guitar the players should have to be solos, and i mean advanced so these solos are hard. i am not this good (yet) but i can play bits of them

walk this way-aerosmith
sweet child o mine-guns n roses(needs wah wah)
stairway to heaven-led zeppelin(considerably easier than others)
slither-velvet revolver(wah wah again)

i think these are all crazy solos and that if advanced guitarist(s) could play these they would be really good to hear and judge and we could like crown the SB-C best guitarist 06'.

Snake
01-16-2006, 08:11 PM
Alright so far
Sk8orelse-advanced guitarists judge
Anti Hero- Yet to decide
Underground network-b**** intermediate, probably advanced
Me- guitar, beginer

And now for the list of maybes
Highwire91, needs to find a way to record

Skater Jack**** need to find a way to record

So here I am - possible judge or player, what instrument do you play?

System of a down rocks- possible bass

What does every one think we should do?
1.) Let the players play their songs of choice.
2.) Designate a song for them
3.) Pair people up with a another person on a mathcing skill level on a different instrument.
We need competitors, dont be afraid to come out and try whats the worst that could happen?

Should we hold qualifying tests for each skill level?

If you dont have recording equipment you can get a mic at walmart for like 5 bucks.
and to record you can download this free recording program at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Maybe we can give the winners prizes of some sort, like status or board privlages

I need some people to help me get this going so i would really apreciate some help from you guys.

This can be alot of fun if we all work hard to get it up and running.

anybody who doesn't know how to record, all you need is a jack - to - 3.5 minijack converter and you can just plug it straight into your pc and record with that, easy as that!

i'd be well up for this... if i wasn't ***** ha :D

Can any instrument participate? I play beginner keyboards, and would like to enter (although it would help if I could find a way to record the MIDI, Audacity's stereo recording feature sounds horrible). Also, what limits do we have on what we play? I would prefer to have segments of various songs, I can play parts of some songs and not others, plus the issue of having parts where keyboards aren't playing.
