Who do you think the most influential punk bands were/are?
I would have to say the sex pistols, the damned, and the ramones(even though alot of people argue they didnt want to be punk).

well its defiently sex pistols and ramones for the punk world. but on more broad temrs it has to be all the proto stuff. iggy pop, velvet underground, new york dolls, and MC5 have influenced more people than people realize. word can not express my love of VU, damn i think they are the best band ever.

Hmmm.....this isn't a "punk" band, but Rage Against The Machine
- I know I've mentioned them in about every "favorite band" thread etc. but I have reasons for it. They have the hard metal sound, they have uniqueness, and they have the rap twist to it. It's one of the few bands that I can pick out without knowing the song because of their sound. Their music really brings a message to the people and discuss all the real issues in the world, politics, and the history of the world. They're as political as it gets....although punk was originally supposed to be political, some of them didn't quite get so clear on it.

But as far as the punk bands go, The Ramones definitely have the top spot for me.

I would say Cr**** some would argue that the Sex Pistols influenced Crass so therefor everyone Crass influenced was because of the Sex Pistols. but i dont think so. Crass DEFINATELY had the most posative influence on punk.

Crass is a huge influence. They looked away from most of the idiotic things at the time and wrote about things that meant something to them. Great smart lyrics but unfortunately they could have been better musicians. But I love em.
