I recently got a job and I was wondering should I pay money for a long board or are they lame?
If I get one what is a good brand long board?

If you have an abundance of long hills and roads that are fairly smooth go for it. But if you live in a normal suburban area you will probably be happier street skating.
Like they are cool and all, but you will eventually get bored of riding it if you have mundane streets to ride.

Long boards should be cool at beaches. For when you have to get from one side of the beach to the other really fast. I'd probably stay away from sector 9, unless you want to be another clone.

Id suggest a cruiser like a zip zinger or something, theyre really fun and not as lame as a longboard and does the same stuff as well as being able to skate them too

I think longboards are awesome! I was always into the band Dinosaur jr. and alien workshop put out a few skateboards of them and then eventually a longboard... I didnt even skate much but i had to have it lol. It is quite the beauty especially if you put on some nice gummy wheels and that goes for any longboard. You cant really get too technical on them because of there size(or must have HELLA strong legs!) but i will warn you that if you get one, everyones going to be asking you if they can try a kickflip on it XD but yeah they ride pretty smooth and fast i think its totally worth it, its almost like surfing on street its so cool. But in time all this led me to standard skateboarding (which i am NOT fairly good at.....at all.) It's fun to switch back and forth though. Ive gone 20 miles easy everyday with a pack of goofy fellow skaters whove decided to experiment with long boards as well, and i must say that we've had quite the experience. Yatta Yatta Yatta. Thank you J Mascis! Hope this helps.

I personally do think they are very lame.
Long boarders are a different breed of nerdy douchebag and it's best to avoid becoming one of them.
Putting longboard wheels on a big fat pool or cruiser deck is cool, and feels really good to coast around on, but yeah actual longboards are lame.
I'd recommend a creature brue killers deck with longboard wheels-

Comes with the added awesomeness of a bottle opener built in to the deck.

You can't be a "longboarder", it's like saying your a "swing-setter"...doesn't work that way.
In general I have great animosity towards longboarding, I hate it when people quit skating to do that, and when people do it as an excuse to wear all out skater stuff and think they are totally bad ass...
Or when they cruise past you and say some shit like "speed over tricks any day"
The kids I know who longboard piss me off in general

I don't see anything wrong with longboards. Long boarding is a sub-division of skating and I like to do both. Skating is obviously better for having fun and doing tricks, but longboards are amazing when it comes to cruising longer distances or even around campus. I don't see why you guys are so opposed.

Agreed!
If you can afford it having a quiver of boards is pretty nice - street, pool, longobard, etc. Bikers do - dowhnill, dirt jump, trail bike, etc.
There are also some that straight up rip on longboards. Pools, transition, street, etc. There is more to it than just cruizin' the campus.

Me and my bro will get on longboards and cruise out of town on some days, and i must say that its just 20 miles of pure fun.
