is primer absolutely necessary when painting on deck?

I just spraypainted my deck w/o primer.. is that bad?
waht if I spraypaint like 3-4 coats?

doesnt matter if your worried about the paint chipping off like on most pros thats not because of them not priming they dont paint on their graphics only brands i know that paint on their graphics are blackbox baker plan b and blank companies normally do
