View Full Version : Is there enough time?

So I just watched die hard and near the end when Hans has a gun to Holly's head and John McClain is standing with a gun pointed at Hans. John doesnt pull the trigger because Holly could die and Hans wont pull the trigger cause then he would die. But if Bruce Willis just shot Hans in the head would he have enough time to pull the trigger and kill Holly before he died? I dont think so, bullets travel at over the speed of sound, and it takes a half second if your really fast to pull the trigger. Which means the bullet would be through your head and out the other side before you even had time to see him pull the trigger. Am i right or is there some hidden finger reflex that i'm unaware of.

nobody has ever thought about this, it happens in 99% of every action movie ever made.

I've wondered that before.

I think there could be a chance his finger would twitch or something, thus killing the hostage.

I dunno,let's try it out.

i agree to disagree, 99% of action movies made before 2005 did this, now they get more creative then that, like "wanted" he shoots that motha fuckas bullets in midair

hollywood has to compensate with the growing stupidity.

Plain and simple, it's too risky.

i dont know, in die hard McClain was a trained cop, with very good aim, he was standing like 10 ft away and wasnt moving, he could have easily put a round right between Hans' eyes. If that was me and i knew i could make the shot i would definitely take it.

Yeah I've wondered about that too. Like, it keeps me up at night thinking about these situations that are always portrayed in the these high budget Hollywood action movies. It seems like it would be a really big loophole and it leaves so much possibility for the hero to just take the shot! I'm constantly haunted by these thoughts night after night. The only way to get rid of these thoughts is to drown them in cough syrup and go to bed only to wake up the next morning thinking about it again.

but yeah, it would be too risky. Even if he's a good shot, he's under pressure and more likely to miss or fuck up somehow.

You gotta factor in Hans watching McClain's hands. In a situation like that, you'd be tense and panicking. He'd be watching McClain's hands to see if his finger moved slightly. Even if McClain didn't move his finger, Hans might break under pressure and think he did and shoot him and then kill the babe. McClain had to defuse the situation.

McClain had a gun with a wider barrel than his hand, meaning that Hans could not see his finger.

i forget exactly what movie it was, but in some cowboy movie i saw a while ago the one guy only had one bullet, but on the draw he shot the other guy square in the head, but the guy didn't die, he kept shooting around and shit. he was all fucked up and stuff but still going.

imdb tells me it;s the quick and the dead.
it wasn't a bad movie...

Old west movies are actually pretty dope. Like I stayed home sick oneday and saw the end of "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" with Clint Eastwood and it was pretty good. And then a couple days ago my dad was watching...I think something with "Wild Bunch" in the title, if that wasnt it itself, where these bandits were dressed up like army soldiers and robbed a place. The fight scene was awesome, probably as good as a modern one.

unless the shot instantly kills you, then you would have enough time to shoot the hostage.

if it hit you in the head, you would be either instantly killed, or knocked back and instantly unconcious, and in shock allowing the hero time to fire a couple more shots.

Okay here's an other question.

I have to go to Homecoming at my girlfriend's school next Saturday, now,I hate 99% of the people at her school, not to mention school dances.

Do I have enough time to shoot myself in the head, thus avoiding the whole thing?
