yeah so some of you may know that i started guitar a week or a bit more back and ive had the chance to try it out a bit and get the feel for guitar playing. so far i learned the riffs for Crazy train, Iron man, Killing in the name of, and back in black.

what are some other metal/hard rock riffs i could learn that would be easy?

yes it is america, but thats a pretty light song, and i wouldnt exaclty call it metal or hard rock lol, but pick pretty much any popular black sabbath song, or problem child by acdc(or really any acdc song) , and enter sandman by mettallica is a fun one

Giant Robot, by Giant Robot. It's easy if you completely ignore Buckethead's crazy shredding.

yes turboz, if you know what you're doing, you shouldn't need to even get out of standard tuning. it's all about knowing your key centers. and good chord progressions

Why you ever want to play Walk, so boring...

Master of Puppets, Raining Blood, Tornado of Souls, basically most songs by Metallica/Megadeth/Slayer.

Also, Walk is in drop D.

yes turboz, if you know what you're doing, you shouldn't need to even get out of standard tuning. it's all about knowing your key centers. and good chord progressionsSo you're telling me Dethklok and Children Of Bodom doesn't know what they're doing? Heck, I occasionally drop it down 2-4 steps, and I like it way more than standard tuning or Drop D. I like it because of the heavier tones, it just sounds better. Detuning past D doesn't mean you don't know what you're doing.

I played today in Bb standard, tell me about heavy riffs.

but a lot of people who don't know all about key centers and what sounds good will tune to C and lower cuz it's an instant way to sound metal... all i'm saying is you don't need ultra drop tuned guitars to get a good metal sound, just knowledge...

and yes, CoB obviously knows what they are doing..never said they didn't they also play in drop D.

That I dropped my guitar tuning so that the lowest string is Bb.

Tuning that low is just silly. Listen to 'Raining Blood', the perfect example of how you don't need to tune down to sound heavy.

Crazy Train (minus the solo) is easy as fuck. Master of Puppets(also minus the solo). Blood and Thunder by Mastodon.

This Love by Pantera is pretty fun to play too.

No matter how much knowledge you have you can't get lower notes that aren't there on standard tuning... If you want a certain sound that includes lower notes, go for it... The guitar is your bitch to get whatever you want out of it, don't worry about thinking you're taking an easy way out or something.

I've personally found that drop tuning only gives you more options. You've got a bigger note range, easier and more power chord possibilities, and the only thing you give is not being able to play some chords (but you also can get some new ones).

On topic I'd recommend trying to play some Black Sabbath.. a lot of cool sounding riffs that are fairly simple.

i kind of just started/well have only been playing a couple months and i thought drop c was getting pretty gnar...i looked up some tabs to some heavy songs and kept seeing drop A! and either A flat or sharp, whichever is worse ahah. thats kind of insane

I disagree that song is seriously god awful, the only bit I like is about the first minute of it after that it goes to shit. The solo just sounds like stupid madness and him raping a tremelo.

yeah i guess so

then i guess if youre going to tune down to drop c you could try some of atreyu's stuff. the first metal song i learned was creature by atreyu

Downtuning a seven string is just plain obnoxious. Slipknot can suck a nut with their Drop B. Thats ridiculous

An hour to learn that intro? If you've just started playing...maybe. But honestly that is so simple, it could be figured out in about 5 minutes.
