Alright so my friend recently bought a blank deck from my local shop and it is REALLY nice and i pretty much like everything about it. my toy machine that i have now has mad chips on it and its about to break anytime soon but i really liked my toy machine while i had it and was thinking about getting another. i don't know what to do. money really isn't much of an issue but BOTH are NICE. there is that certain element of excitement of getting a brand deck though. i just don't know. suggest some other brands too if you're up to it. i heard AWS were nice......i dunno just tell me something.

Personally, I'm against no name blanks. However I'm down with the atm blanks and mini-logos (I ride mini-logos) and shop blanks. It's important to support skating whether it be the industry or your local shop. Nevertheless, blanks are a great way to save money, and a little extra change in your pockets doesn't suck.
A note about buying shop blanks though. I like to ask a shop where they get their blanks made before I consider buying, this way I at least have an understanding of what kind of quality to expect. Chances are the shop gets their board from reputable local factory, but I just like to be sure.
As for suggestions on branded decks, Habitat/AWS make solid stiff boards I find, my buddy loves his Almost resin 7...but my biased opinion says get a mini-logo.

I didnt like my AWS. But that could be just me.It wasnt great, it wasnt bad. I really like ATM's, they are cheap and good. Best blanks out there. Goodwood and minilogo are horrible in my opinion.

Get a few blanks, you'll be getting more for less. My "LiteSpeed" blanks lasted me the exactly as long as my Santa Cruz Powerlyte did, which was a week. I feel I've been missing out on blanks this whole time, and I'm definitely going to buy more. You should too I guess.

I like both. My first ever board was a blank, but my skate shop doesn't sell them anymore so I have been buying brands, plus we only have 1 proper skate shop, the other one is just fucking gay and doesn't even focus on skating.

now that i can't get $$ from my parents and i'm trying to get sponsored by a shop. i've been riding blanks and heres what i've come up with. you make the deck, the deck doesn't make you. blanks to me are an awesome thing cause it saves you a ton of cash and you won't need to get used to new decks all the time, so you'll just progress that much faster cause you're riding the same shape over and over. i've ordered 5 blanks and i'm just going to keep skating them til i can get hooked up by my local shop. which should be soon. there is that thing about the quality of the wood though, but blanks are cheap enough and once you get used to the shape and assuming you get better skating it won't chip as much or barely. thats just my two cents.

blanks are great, I buy from blankdecks.com and I love them, just like aws but mellower concave
pop-lite blanks are cheap, have great shape, and last the same time as a pro board

Blanks suck, at least most of them do, and they detract from the skateboarding industry.

Brands.
It skates MUCH better than blanks, it supports skateboarding, and you get your money's worth.

i think that there are some blanks that are better than brands. if you have the money, you probably should try to either get a couple of brands, or a lot of blanks! some of the best blanks i have ever used are the canadian maple blanks from blankdecks.com. but a great way to save money is to buy blanks i bulk. 5 blanks for $100 will most likely last longer than 2 brands for the same price. your desicion though... ...
