He's damn amazing, his rhytmic sense just keeps my eyes wide open and my jaw dropped.

Discuss.

He's one of my favourite drummers. I play drums, death metal and he is probably one of the only favourite drummers of mine that do not play death metal or black metal.

Over-rated. Not saying he's bad by any means, but I think he's over-rated.

How can the youngest drummer ever in the drummer Hall of Fame be over-rated?

Joey jordison is over-rated.
Mike Portnoys not over-rated although there are better drummers than him that don't get as much recognition.

I don't know anything about this Hall of Fame or whatever, but I can promise you if the Hall of Fame was like 70 years old, Tony Williams would be in it as an 18 year old.

He's over rated. He's not a versatile drummer.

Do you play drums yourself? Also, have you listened to Dream Theater enough to claim he's not versatile at all?

Yes, I do play drums.

I have his Liquid Tension Experiment dvd. I can claim he's not versatile.

Well I can't change your opinion, let it be.

On another note, I'd love to own a LTE dvd.

Mike Portnoy is an amazing drummer end of.

And how is he not versatile? You cant base your opinion of him on one side project dvd. You have to hear his drumming in Dream Theater, it's unbelievably amazing. Train of Thought shows he can do metal, Scenes From A Memory shows his progressive style. And also in so many Dream Theater songs he sings and plays all those awkward time changes at the same time. He's just class.
A bit arrogant though thats all I can say bad about him.
