What are the drawbacks/advantages of having a semi-hollow body? I'm thinking about getting a semi-hollow body bass.. And I was wondering if it would sound just as good when plugged into an amp as an electric, and if it would sound good without an amp as well.

Mine sounds fine in an amp. Hell it sounds fantastic in an amp. It's not really that much different than a full-out electric guitar without an amp though

it has kind of an acousticy feel to it. not much of a difference, but a little. and they are lighter. (obviously)

So it doesn't project the sound any when it's not plugged into an amp?

Not really. Ive never owned a semi-hollow bass but Ive played some. They might feed back more than solid bodies, i know its that way for guitar, but im not sure with bass.
