Fear of a Black Planet - Porcupine Tree
Come Clarity / STYE / Reroute to Remain - In Flames
Black Holes and Revelations and whatever* - Muse

*with the one exception of Knights of Cydonia. The rest made me sad.

The album itself wasn't bad, but The Destruction of Small Ideas by 65daysofstatic was mixed very poorly.

Yeah, it wasn't a bad album in terms of the album itself, but compared to what they used to do its a really odd step to take. They had their sound so sorted out in albums like In Absentia and Stupid Dream, it was really good. Then they really morphed quite dramatically in the direction of Dream Theatre. There are already quite a bunch of bands that can do the whole heavy prog thing really well, and Porcupine Tree can too, but they left a void when they moved - thats what I don't like. The atmospheric acoustic groove / hard rock mix was working really well, then they don't do that now. And noone else really does it like that either.

Dream Theater - Systematic Chaos

Has like 2-3 really good songs, nothing compared to the 14-23 minute long epics they've written in the past. The melodies just don't match the older work.

The killers - Sawdust

the songs that were good in that album were old songs from 2003
like "Under the Gun" , "All the Pretty Faces"

doesn't mean it wasn't a decent album, just not nearly as good as their past work.

I liked Systematic Chaos. I think Falling into Infinity is DT's worst album. It's not bad, but it isn't very engaging.

why?? STYE and RtR are some of my favorite In Flames albums. And yes I've heard the Jester Race too.

It sounded like electronically produced sludge to me, the insanely well written guitar solos don't exist any more, the chord progressions are so much more poppy, the awesome fitting guitar riffs like in Jotun and Episode 666 are replaced with chugging rhythms way more suited to other bands, Anders voice is weak and whiny, the lyrics went incredibly downhill (although they were still really bad in Clayman), practically zero use of acoustic passages to give the songs some dynamics.

They had so much more of an intricate intelligence about them. I don't know, I was just a long time In Flames fan, I don't mean to bag them... well actually I do. They were great.

But Starlight was so good!

Haha, reminds me of the Muse concert I went to last November. They played the old awesome tracks like Plug in Baby and New Born and only about 1/3 of the crowd were really getting into it. They play Starlight and the other 2/3's go off. Split crowd sort of. Cydonia was a kickarse ender for everyone though.

By The Way - Red Hot Chili Peppers.

It wasn't my favorite album by RHCP, but you think it is worse than One Hot Minute? I mean at least By The Way had John Frusciante on guitar.

Serious? I loved Whoreacle.

I thought Whoracle was their best. Vocals are a bit rough, but musically its so good. Like the opening riff to Jotun isn't complex to play, but they way the two parts fit together is phenomenal. Thats why I liked them, they could write really intelligently, and dspite that their actual sound was really dirty (as opposed to so many clean metal bands who sound a little too much like robots). Everything counts is bit of a shit song though.

My opinion :)

Taking Back Sunday sucked the album after "Tell All Your Friends"

Poison The Well sucked after "Tear From The Red"

i actually liked most of those albums. i thought fear of a blank planet was pretty damn good. come clarity is kinda gay and poppy, but i still like it for some reason. with muse, i haven't listened to anything before absolution so i dont have much to compare it to.

there's a ton of sick old thrash bands that have released bad new albums, not worth listing them all.

Everything counts was pretty gay. But then again, that is the price one must pay for covering Depeche mode.

My favorite song was Gyroscope. Opening riffs=sex.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stadium Arcadium

i think they had some good songs on there, but the whole double album concept didn't really work in my opinion

and Bullet For My Valentine - Scream, Aim, Fire
i know it's only their second album, but damn the first one is so much better.
